When it comes to romance, the British do not have the best of reputations. We are said to lack the suave sophistication of the French, the fiery intensity of the Italians or the sultry passion of the Spanish. But all that is changing according to Red Letter Days, the company which specialises in providing gifts for magical memories. British lovers are getting more interesting in their choices.
This year, Red Letter Days is spreading the love by donating £1 for an experience bought between 1st January and 14th February 2008 to the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Valentine Appeal 2008.
The BHF’s Valentine Appeal is aiming to raise £1m to fund BHF Heart Nurses and the charity’s Heart Help Line to care for and support more heart patients and their families. This amazing work can only happen with continued fundraising, so why not give a romantic Red Letter Days gift experience from the heart to help a heart?
Where once a man would pop round to the supermarket for a box of chocolates, now he joins his partner in a Chocolate Heaven Experience, sampling and even making their own chocolates to take home and enjoy together.
Instead of a bottle of body lotion, modern lovers take a Rasul Experience, practising the intimate techniques of this Arabian ritual which is a cross between a mudpack and a steam bath only much, much better!
If that seems a little too exotic, some lovers prefer to take a Massage Workshop, where, after expert tutelage from a qualified therapist, they have an hour in a private studio practising techniques on each other before taking home a gift set of oils to develop their newly-acquired skills!
Even the traditional romantic lunch has become passé as Red Letter Days report that a growing number of Brits are opting for a champagne flight over London, a steam-hauled journey on the Orient Express or a Thames Lunch Cruise For two followed by a ride in the BA London Eye instead.
Energetic lovers are finding romance in the Salsa Dancing craze which is sweeping the world, and more and more couples are taking the option of a workshop under the direction of renowned salsa teacher Alastair Sadler.
While February 14 is the day for lovers, the more romantic among us are now making the loving experience last more than just 24 hours. Popular choices include Health Spa Breaks and, for the really adventurous, a romantic two-night break away from it all in a teepee deep in the remote Welsh mountains.
Those with a more traditional approach to gift-giving at Valentines can opt for a beautiful floral arrangement, divine and decadent chocolate selections or why not toast each other with a glass of champagne?
If you still can't decide exactly which experience to buy your partner to express your love, why not try one of the Red Letter Days Gift Cards, the ultimate gift of choice!
So don’t limit the romance with a greeting cards, give a Red Letter Days experience this Valentine’s Day and help us help the BHF hit their £1million target!

The British Heart Foundation is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and by providing vital information. But we urgently need help. We rely on donations of time and money to continue our life-saving work. Because together we can beat heart disease.
The BHF’s Valentine Appeal is aiming to raise £1m to fund BHF Heart Nurses and the charity’s Heart Help Line to care for and support more heart patients and their families.
In the UK there are 2.6 million men and women living with coronary heart disease and for some it can be frightening and debilitating. Last year BHF Heart Nurses were able to help 50,000 of these heart patients and the charity’s Heart Help Line provided support and information to 13,000 callers. But we urgently need your help to reach so many more.
