From 1st April 2009, Red Letter Days will be the first UK-based experience company to offset its carbon emissions and that of all its experiences.
In 2008 Red Letter Days, the UK's leading experience company, embarked on an ambitious journey to understand its carbon footprint and establish how to reduce and offset it. The decision was taken to calculate the carbon footprint of each of the hundreds of experiences sold by the company, as well as an internal assessment to initiate improvements and changes within the company itself.
Working in conjunction with the independent auditor ECObiz, the carbon impact of each Red Letter Days experience was calculated on everything from hot air ballooning and Ferrari driving to spa days. Armed with this information and the company's internal carbon emission figures, a policy of reduce, reuse and recycle was put in place in line with a partnership with the organisation - Climate Care. Climate Care provides Red Letter Days with the means to invest in CO2-reducing projects around the world, covering human, bio and wind energy, as well as efficient cooking stoves and lighting.
Statement from Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones, joint owners of Red Letter Days:
"Red Letter Days recognises that as the market leader, we must lead in environmental responsibility. This is why we have decided to be the first experience company to fully offset our own emissions. But more importantly we will offset all our customer experiences too, at no extra cost to them. By partnering with Climate Care, we are doing our part to counter the effects of climate change."
