Saddle up for a true taste of Western life with this fun day out with The Burley-Villa School of Riding. After a full briefing and refreshments of coffee and bacon rolls, you'll head to the field to meet and catch the horse you'd be riding. You'll then groom and tack your horse Western style before a riding lesson in the arena - Western riding is easier to pick up than the traditional English style and a lot more comfortable. After stopping for a barbeque lunch, head out into the forest on a Western trail to put your newfound skills into practice, before returning to the ranch to untack, rub down and feed your horse. The day will conclude with a well- earned coffee.

    • Catch, groom and tack up your horse, western-style
    • A western-style riding lesson - easier to learn than English style and much more comfortable!
    • Hit the trail on a ride into the beautiful forest
    • Perfect for complete beginners and experienced riders
    • Includes a cowboy-style breakfast and a hearty lunch

Burley Villa have really worked on getting the Western Theme right. Fantasic bacon & egg rolls for breakfast - beautiful steak for lunch and very friendly staff and horses. My only complaint is being an experience rider, it was a very tame day for me, but perfect for people who have never been near a horse in their life!

    A Great Day

Well organised and set-up. Friendly people who obviously looked after the animals very well. Found the western riding difficult as have English riding ingrained but still enjoyed the experience.

From the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly. We were informed of what was going to go on, all with a sense of relaxation and as beginners we never felt in over our heads. From the morning bacon roll, getting your horse from the field, grooming and putting the saddle on, BBQ lunch and on to the 'hack' the whole day was fantastic. Learning to ride 'western style' was easy So whether you have never ridden a horse or can ride well, you'll love this experience. We intend to do it again and take our kids with us.

    Perfect Day

A truely memoriable day. It was just as described. Very welcoming from the beginning, with patient, friendly staff. Was able to enjoy every moment of the day. The instructions were clear and simple. the ride through the forest breathtaking. Even saw a deer in the forest. I am a complete beginner rider and even manage a trot on the horse. The food supplied was very tasty too.

    Great Fun!

Having ridden western before I had an idea of what was comming, however the people were very friendly, greeted us on our arrival and made us feel welcome. The instructors were patient, especially with the inexperienced riders and gave clear concise intructions. Various excercises were planned into the schooling in the morning and we were asked to use our imagination at times, but this added to the fun. The horses were trained to a high standard and were gennerally obedient. It was excellent to see the horses were matched to the riders size weight and caperbility. My husband who has never ridden before was encouraged to push himself and his horse to try new challenges this he relished and was comended on his abilities by the instructors, the afternoon was pinnicle with a 2hour trail ride in the new forest, although we were fortunate with the weather we would still do it again in the rain. We are thinking of booking again very soon. Thank you Red Letter Days.

    A Very Good Day!

An Excellent day to remember! But would advise it rather painful for beginers not used to riding, or with hip problems. But overall wonderful.

The Western Riding Experience was full and fun day out. A very well balanced package which ensured everyone, from those who had never been on a horse before to the experienced riders all had a great time. Friendly people who looked after us brilliantly left us with happy memories and for some a new interest likely to lead to a whole new hobby.

Very Enjoyable And A Great Gift.

Hospitality was terrific, staff knowledgeable and friendly. A very professional setup, with well behaved and suitable horses. My husband and I fully enjoyed our western experience. We are both competent riders and felt that the tuition was both appropriate and informative, with lots of opportunity to ask questions. The ride through the New Forest was stunning, with deer and wild ponies.

    Brilliant Day!!

The whole day is very well organised and is suitable for anyone, from the most inexperienced beginner to someone with a riding background. The staff were extremely friendly and good fun. Catching, saddling up the horses and lesson before the trek gave the day a good variety and made everyone feel more confident. Even experienced riders learned how different American riding is from English style. The two hour trek in the afternoon is very good and isn't too demanding - the horses know what they are doing. I would recommend this experience to anyone who likes horses and wants to learn a little about riding.

    Fantastic Experience

It was a great day, the team at the stables really looked after us, they were very friendly and lots of fun. The lessons were well thought out and kept us busy, a real cowboy day. The food was brilliant (mmm tasty steak), I really didn't expect as much as was on offer. What else can I say? We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and definitely would recommend it to anyone.

    Brilliant Introduction To Western Riding

    Sue B, 08 May 2009

Clean stables, happy friendly horses, very professional, thorough instruction. Cowboy breakfast of egg and bacon roll and coffee, an excellent lunch of steak, beans, corn, jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw and what else but Wagon Wheels and muffins for tea! After breakfast we collected our horses from the field and led them to the corral for a good brush down and saddling, at each stage we were shown exactly what to do. We rode to the indoor arena to practice manouvres. Before lunch we fed and watered the horses and in the afternoon mounted up for a ride in the New Forest. Regular riding hats are covered with stetson covers, you need boots and long sleeves for brushing through the undergrowth. After removing saddles, grooming and returning horses to the field we cleaned tack and had tea. The whole experience was very well organised, safe and thoroughly enjoyable. A ranch holiday is now definitely on the cards!

    Amazing Experience

The day I spent at Burley Villa was a truly amazing experience. The staff were brilliant and worked hard to ensure that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. My horse, Concho, was a real gent and really looked after me. All in all, a great day for everyone, whether you are an experienced rider or have never ridden before. I would certainly recommend the experience.

    Brilliant Day

From arrival to departure the staff were great, we could not have been better looked after. They made sure we had the right horse to suit our ability to ride. We had to groom the horses and get them saddled up before we had an hour's riding lesson, then after a very tasty lunch of steak we had 2 hours riding through the New Forest which was very interesting. Thank you for a memorable day.

    Wonderful Experience

What a thrilling experience. Grooming our horses first thing in the morning was hard, dusty work but you got to know your horse. Saddling up Western style was an experience as well as the lesson in the arena. Even experienced riders learnt a few pointers about riding Western style, like reversing your horse and making him turn in tight circles. Breakfast was scrumptious but the BBQ at lunch, after we had fed and watered our horses, was even better. The people at the stables were all very friendly and helpful and made the day all the more special. The horses were very well-mannered and well-tempered. Riding in the New Forest was great, especially seeing the buzzards, deer and other wildlife.

    Fantastic Day, Really Friendly Staff
