  • About

These days air travel is a nightmare of queues, checks and delays - and modern passenger jets are so vast that it's easy to forget you're in the air at all. Recreate the thrill of early air travel with a flight in one of Britain's best loved pre-war aircrafts, the De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane. Taking off from the Imperial War Museum, you'll fly south to London, enjoying magnificent views from 1,500 feet of the capital's famous landmarks, including Canary Wharf, St Paul's Cathedral and the meandering Thames. Back on terra firma, you'll get free entry into the Imperial War Museum (and half price entry for any guests), Europe's premier aviation museum, spread over 85 acres and housing classic planes such as the prototype Concorde.

Flew the 1943 De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane from Duxford to London - a great experience to remind you of what it was first like in passenger aircraft in the 40s!!!

    Wow!!!

Nothing really prepares you for this. The noise from the twin engines become part of the experience, purring in the background as you try to take in all that's passing by below you. You sit in the surprisingly comfortable seat, which leaves today's air transport sadly behind, even though they may have a little more corridor space. Flying in and out of Duxford just capped it all off. Hats off to Classic Wings and their wonderful aircraft.

A 70th birthday present from my children, two of whom accompanied us to Duxford and made it a very memorable day. The flight took me down familiar roads (A10 etc.) to London and presented me with great photo opportunities. That was yesterday and I'm still smiling.

The service from Red Letter Days was excellent, text the day before was useful, and I was called on the day by the provider to inform me that my weather dependent flight was happening.
