  • About

These days air travel is a nightmare of queues, checks and delays - and modern passenger jets are so vast that it's easy to forget you're in the air at all. Recreate the thrill of early air travel with a flight in one of Britain's best loved pre-war aircraft, the De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane. Taking off from the Imperial War Museum Duxford, you'll fly north to Cambridge, enjoying magnificent views from 1,500 feet. You'll see the glorious spires and quads of Cambridge University, the meandering River Cam, Newmarket Racecourse, the stunning Gothic architecture of Ely Cathedral and the open country of the Fens. Back on terra firma, you'll get free entry into the Imperial War Museum (and half price entry for any guests) - it's Europe's premier aviation museum, spread over 85 acres and housing classic planes like Spitfires, a B17 and the prototype Concorde.

    • Recreate the early years of passenger air travel aboard a De Havilland Dragon Rapide biplane
    • Fly over Cambridgeshire at 1,500 feet
    • Unrivalled views of Cambridge, Newmarket, Ely Cathedral and the fens
    • Free entry to the Imperial War Museum Duxford
    • A must for anyone who's into aviation history

The Rapide flight surpassed my expectations providing excellent views of the countryside while experiencing airline travel from the pioneering age. The IWM was a Red Letter Day for my guests too. They were engrossed and entertained as I was by the static aircraft and those flying. We will all be sure to make a return visit.

Fun For Me And The Rest Of The Family Also.

Very enjoyable in itself, and the half price admission for my family was an added bonus as they could be there to enjoy the day too.

I first flew in a similar Dehavilland Rapide in 1952 from Biggin Hill, as a treat from my Ex. RAF father and never forgot the experience. It was great to see this historic Aircraft still flying and giving us old boys a lovely thrill.

A great trip in a lovely old plane which I remember from a Dinky as a child. Flying over Ely cathedral was a bonus I wasn't expecting and trying to navigate using the ground was quite difficult as everything you think you know looks very different! An experience to be recommended. Good value for the time spent in the aircraft

A truly remarkable experience to enjoy historic aviation and fully appreciate the development of flying. Who needs 'in flight' entertainment as this experience had it all. A brilliant day out for any age.

It was a great experience to get the real sensation of flying complete with superb views of Cambridge and Ely cathedral, and authentic grass field landing at the end! It gave a real feel of how passenger flying used to be, and to fly in the style of a time when only a few could achieve it - and it must have been a real challenge to deliver in flight service to the passengers of the day!

My first flight ever was in a Canberra Bomber from RAF Bassingbourne. Great to fly over this area again in an historic plane and also to see my old Cambridge College from the air.
