  • About

Can't decide between flying, driving and sightseeing? Try all three at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. Your experience begins with a briefing in the control tower, then don a flight jacket for a flying lesson in a genuine De Havilland Tiger Moth, the quintessential English biplane, and discover why generations of flyers have fallen in love with these spunky little planes. Back on solid ground, pose for a picture with the Tiger Moth, before hitting Duxford's military testing ground for a driving lesson in an armoured personnel carrier. After a buffet lunch back at the tower, let someone else do the driving on a flight over Cambridge in a De Havilland Dragon Rapide, recreating the early years of passenger air travel and enjoying unrivalled views over the Fens and the city. Then get a short, private guided tour of Duxford's aircraft collection, including Spitfires, a B17 and the prototype Concorde. You'll finish with a champagne toast and a certificate presentation.

    Great Memories For Us All.

I purchased this for my daughter's 21st birthday present as she has always wanted to fly in a Tiger Moth. The whole day was a real experience for her and she was looked after with care and attention by the staff at Classic Wings at Duxford. The lunch provided was well presented and tasted gorgeous. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the tank driving which was something she had never considered trying before but after today will definitely be going back to give it another go. The Tiger Moth flight was an experience she will remember for the rest of her life and we purchased a DVD recording of the experience so she can relive it again and again. A must experience for both those who enjoy flying and driving along with history fanatics like my daughter.

Never been to Duxford but always meant to go. The Tanks were OK but the Tiger Moth was superb, taking over the controls was so much fun. If you like Spitfires and WW2 stuff its an absolute must.

    Fantastic Day

This was a complete surprise from my friends - something I'd never considered but which was really fun, exciting and enjoyable. Flying in a Tiger Moth & Dragon Rapide were great especially as a group of friends came along as spectators. The visit to the land warfare workshops was also very interesting (but I'm an engineer and realise that this might not appeal to everyone), the highlight however was driving the APC.

The experience was bought for my 50th birthday by my family and is one that will stay with me for years to come. An excellent day out provided by a group of people that seemed to thoroughly enjoy what they do and passed on their enthusiasm throughout the day.

Flying in a Tiger Moth is a unique experience, as is driving an armoured vehicle - and opportunities that don't come around too often, let alone on the same day. Add to that a passenger flight over Cambridge in the Dragon Rapide, the most friendly and welcolming of hosts, the chance to chat away and ask as many questions as you like and the opportunity to explore the museum as much as you like and it makes for quite a day. Oh, and the lunch was pretty good too!

    Great Experience

Weather couldn't have been better for this experiencce. Took control of the tiger from the moment we were level to when we had to land. Driving the tracked vehicle was novel and very dusty. Finally the trip over Cambridgeshire in the dragon rapide was well worth it with great views below. Quote of the day 'when you push the joystick forwards the cows get bigger, pull it back they get smaller. Pull it back for too long, the aircraft stalls and the cows get bigger very quickly'!

Fantastic Experience And Great Day Out

What a brilliant day. Everything was run very efficiently and the people who looked after us for the day were very friendly, knew what they were doing, and were very knowledgeable about the aircraft and military vehicles which we had our experience in. A day like this is all the better when everything runs smoothly and like it should. As for the flying in the Tiger Moth, well it was just unbelievable that you can suddenly find yourself at the controls of the aeroplane and, whilst a bit scary I wouldn't have missed this oppportunity for anything and my special thanks go to the pilot for this great experience. It was also good to be able to spend time looking around all the other aircraft at Duxford whilst there. A great day out and highly recommended.

    Thoroughly Enjoyable Day

    Patrick G, 26 Sep 2008

This was a birthday gift from my family and what a gift! It's hardly a secret that I have a great interest in aircraft and flying but the experience on the day more than surpassed my expectations. The early morning fog cleared to leave us with a beautiful sunny Autumn day. The staff were friendly and welcoming and after a briefing on how the day's events were to be organised we were split into two groups of six. My group was transported off to the tank training ground where we took it in turn to take the controls of an armoured personnel carrier. It was so good we just could not stop smiling. Back then to the airfield and an unforgettable flight in the Tiger Moth and yes, the pilot even lets you have a go at flying it. After lunch we were loaded into the Dragon Rapide for a flight over nearby Cambridge. The day was completed with a guided tour of the Battle of Britain hangar. The day was faultless and our hosts were superb. A truly great day out.
