Tea For Two - Par Excellence

Our day in London was a gift from a friend - and what a day we had! My wife Linda and I chose to visit St Pauls where we joined one of the conducted tours, then spent time exploring those parts the tour did not cover - climbing the many steps to the Whispering and Concrete Galleries and Linda going on to the very top, giving her some glorious views of London (and many photos). We then went on to Fortnum & Masons for afternoon tea - more like a banquet! We were treated like royalty. All the staff were very attentive, the food excellent and the setting very relaxing. Though not part of the Red Letter Day, we finished the day with a Theatre Show and returned home thoroughly exhausted but extremely satisfied with our day in London.

Horse Guards Museum was extremely interesting and the highlight of the day was the tea at Fortnum & Masons - it was fantastic - so elegant and delicious. It was a delight to relax while we ate the superb food.

    Great Day Out.

We did St Pauls and the tea for two. St Pauls was excellent, but you do need to be fit to climb all the stairs to the tower. The view over London was spectacular and well worth the climb. You are given an interactive MP4 player with numerous 'stops' of interest which for us is the best way to visit as you can go at your own pace. Tea was very good, we enjoyed it immensely. Don't be upset at the portions, they appear to be small, however with four courses and more if you wish we actually brought home an F&M doggy box!!

    A Perfect Christmas Present

At our age what does a daughter give her parents for Christmas? It was the perfect Christmas Present, we had a leisurely tour of St Pauls, where neither of us had been for many yearts, a stroll through parts of London with which we were not familiar and then wound up the day with a superb tea at Fortnum and Mason.

It was for us a very enjoyable experience. It would have been even better had we been able to sit at the table of our choice. The tea was superb.

Everything was so well organised that we only had to show our tickets and we were warmly welcomed at the Household Cavalry Museum as well as in Fortnum and Mason where all our needs were met and nothing was too much trouble. A brilliant afternoon on St. George's Day.

St Paul's Cathedral is a fantastic building and the guided tour and subsequent self-guided audio tour still left more to be discovered on a subsequent visit. The sheer scale and majesty of the building together with the numerous monuments and memorials to the great, the good and the fallen are stunning and amazing. The climb to the galleries is well worth the effort; the views across the London skyline are amazing. I was able to see the arch on Wembley Stadium! Afternoon tea at Fortnum & Masons was fine, but the venue lacks the WOW factor of the Ritz hotel, so my wife told me. The advantage of F&M is that you can spend time browsing around the shop which has some fabulous food products on offer.

Felt Like A Princess For The Day.

Yesterday, just an hour from home , I felt like and was treated like a Princess. We did things backwards. Our afternoon tea first, then the Enchanted Princess Exhibition. The staff at Fornum Mason made us feel very welcome, the food exquisite and the lemon and verbena tea to die for. Only problem they had sold out in the store! Would have prefered to look round the palace itself, but never mind the exhibition very different. Thanks to all who helped our day along.

Yesterday my husband and i visited the Enchanted Palace and then tea for two at Fortnum and Mason. The tour of the palace was very informative and there were guides walking around if you wanted any extra information. We then went to Fortnum and Mason's for afternoon tea. This was excellent, the staff were very attentive, the tearoom was very elegant and they even had a piano player. The tea itself more like lunch was excellent and very well presented.Sandwiches and scones and fancy cakes and you could have more if you wanted. We also had a range of teas. We really enjoyed our day!

    An Enchanting Day Out

We were a bit concerned when booking online to find that our 'Tour of Kensington Palace' had, due to building works, been changed to 'The Enchanted Palace'. However, from the moment that we stepped inside, we were caught up in the surreal, fairy-tale world of it. It was a bit like being in 'Alice in Wonderland' being drawn from one room to another, looking for clues to the mysterious princesses who had inhabited the palace. Each room held it's own mysteries and we soon were able to work out their names, though to be fair, we were given lots of clues. The guides certainly knew their stuff and were able to more than answer our questions. The Detectors were quite amazing, and dare I say, more than a little bit mad! We loved their antics and mannerisms. Later, we presented ourselves for Afternoon Tea in Fortnum and Masons, pure luxury. A wonderful present from our daughter and her family to celebrate our Golden Wedding earlier in the year.

    A Memorable Mums' Day Out!

    Denise M, 09 Oct 2009

The Birthday treat for two Mums was certainly a day to remember! A stroll through Kensington Gardens in all their Autumn Glory was followed by an informative audio tour of the Palace, where we learnt to curtsey like debutantes and marvelled at Queen Victoria's bedroom. The sumptuous tea at Fortnum and Masons was the perfect end to a perfect day; a thoughtful and unusual birthday present from our children left two 'mature' ladies very happy!

    An Elderly Birthday Treat

This trip was a birthday gift to my wife from our children. It was eagerly looked forward to and was not at all disappointing. Whilst we could not enjoy the full tour of the state rooms at Kensington Palace due to my wife's poor mobility, what we did see was of great interest and the palace staff were exceptional in assisting my wife in a very caring and informative way. The visit to Fortnum and Mason's was first class with excellent service and a pleasant musical background with a live pianist. The occasion was an all round success and a very pleasant and enjoyable one and made a London born couple (71 year old lady and a 75 year old man) proud of their heritage thanks to Red Letter Days.

The tour of the Palace was made extra special as the staff were extremely helpful and offered extra information as we walked round the palace. The posh nosh at Fortnum & Mason was up to our high expectations. The ambience was relaxing as the pianist tickled the ivories whilst we had our specialist pots of tea, tasty sarnies and cakes!
