Into speed, into extreme and don't mind getting really wet? Head out onto the water in a zapcat! They're lightweight inflatable catamaran hulls with racing engines attached, which makes them amazingly stable and secure, even at high speeds, round tight corners and in conditions ranging from complete calm to large breaking surf (in fact, they were developed originally from life-saving surf rescue craft). Head out onto the water with an instructor and they will show exactly what this fantastic craft can do - so prepare for the ride of your life speeding along, pull tight manoeuvres and hit big air jumps. There's a RIB powerboat on standby acting as a support boat, get a thrilling ride on this too.

    • Two hours racing around in a zapcat on the East Sussex coast
    • Depending on the weather, you may get to take the helm yourself
    • Includes a thrilling ride in a RIB powerboat
  • Key Info

    Availability

Selected Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer season (May to October). If you are a group of six or more, you can book any day throughout the year.

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age is 16 and a minimum height of 5'4''. You must be a confident swimmer. This is an extreme sport and if you have any back or neck problems you won't be able to take part.

    Weather

This experience may be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions which would make racing at speed dangerous. Please call the venue if in any doubt.

    Duration

Can last for up to two hours (dependent on total numbers on the boat and the weather). There will be up to 20 minutes of driving time in the zap cats, the rest of the time you will be a passenger or in the support boat.

    Numbers On Day

There will be up to 10 people taking part - three per Zap Cat including an instructor, with a maximum of two Zap Cats and two support boats out on the water.

    Spectators

Guests are welcome at the marina. Facilities are excellent, including restaurants, a multiplex cinema and jetties packed with high-performance and luxury powerboats. Once you are out in the open water spectators will need binoculars to follow the action.

    Dress Code

Bring a swimming costume, towel and pair of old trainers (that you do not mind getting wet). If it's hot bring sunscreen, if it's cold bring plenty of warm dry clothes to change into. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are provided.

    Other Info

Please don't automatically expect to take the helm - weather conditions might mean that only the instructor can drive the craft safely. Sunglasses with a safety strap can be useful as they will help keep spray out of your eyes.

    Ultimate Thrillseeker

    Emma M, 22 Oct 2011

I booked this for my boyfriend for his birthday, as he loves being out on the water. I took part as well as I am a bit of a thrill seeker. Neither of us knew what to expect and were blown away. It is the ultimate thrillseeking experience, as we sped, bounced and on occasion flew through the waves of Brighton marina. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, especially as we arrived late due to traffic from London. I was the only girl in my group so won the award for loudest screams, but it was well worth it. I would say though anyone taking part should be up for a challenge and be prepared for a rocky ride that will test your muscles. Awesome day out - thanks!!

    Totally Great Day

Despite being slightly nervous at the beginning I had such a great time on the Zapcat. The weather and water conditions were so ideal that we were given the chance to drive the Zapcat. There was never a dull moment on this experience whether you were in the Zapcat or the powerboat. I can highly recommend this experience to everyone.

    Breathtakingly Spectacular!

I'm Zapcat Power Boating And I'm Awesome!!!

I waited over a year to cash in my Red Letter Day birthday present for Zapcat Powerboating, and boy was it worth the wait! I'm not normally one for watersports, but this was absolutely exhilarating! Fast-paced and action-packed! The Zapcat is a rapid, highly maneouvrable sea going craft. You do need to hold on tight and it is actually quite physical as you use muscles in your body to ride the waves and remain in the craft. The sea was calm enough for us to have a go at driving the Zapcat and I relished this as it enabled me to exercise my competitive spirit with a time trial to finish the day! The guides were very friendly and helpful. A full safety briefing was given and if at any time you feel uncomfortable or need a break, a simple closed hand in the air will see them stop the boat and tend to you if required. All in all, a great day out! One I will never forget and something I will definitely do again in the future!

    Insanely Fun

I wasn't quite prepared for just how much physical excursion was involved in this, and I'd be lying if I said my legs didn't ache today. I'd also be lying if I said that it wasn't worth it. I had enough fun just being on the main boat in between Zapcat sessions. Even that moves at a good speed and if you don't listen to the instructions then you could do yourself out of children in the future (assuming you're a man). The Zapcat itself was fun, fast-paced and exhilarating. Being given the opportunity to be in control of it was especially interesting and the time-trial lap was astounding. The whole experience was fun, friendly, and most importantly, fast. It was a day worth having, although I'm sure it would have been even better on a nice sunny day.

The Most Thrilling Day On Water

    Gaye W, 21 Aug 2010

I had the most exhilirating day. Everything was perfect, from the weather, to the excitement to the Drivers & Instructors. Everyone was able to have as many turns on the Zapcat in the time allowed. Even the RIB boat was fun & the Driver kept us entertained with speeding through the water whilst we were waiting our turn on the Zapcat. This is the best thrill I have had on water, ever. Thanks Guys

    Great Fun

All I can say is hang on tight! Great fun and the guys there really look after you. Had a great time and good facilities afterwards to wash and change and a hairdryer girls! Wear waterproof mascara as you will get a face full of sea water several times!

    Great Watersport For Petrol Heads

    Mark H, 13 Jun 2010

Brighton Marina is a terrific venue and we had the added advantage of great weather too. The staff were open, friendly and knew their stuff. Ed gave us a real taste of Zapcat speed while the RIB churned enough surf to get us airborne. Then it was on to the helm for all of us. I'm used to dinghies and club rescue boats but these little beauties really move and turn on a sixpence. Don't go if you want to stay dry!

    Simply Exhilarating

If You Love Speed And Water Then This Is For You

    Kelvin P, 19 Sep 2009

The sheer speed and ability of these boats is awesome. I have never turned direction on water so fast. I've been on experiences before but this was brilliant - I must do this again or even buy my own boat!! It was that good... if you get the opportunity then you must do it. The chance to drive and feel the power and agility was out of this world. If you can't get it as a present then buy it for yourself!!
