  • About

You're into speed, you're into extreme, and you don't mind getting really wet? Head out onto the water in a zapcat! They're lightweight inflatable catamaran hulls with racing engines attached, which makes them amazingly stable and secure, even at high speeds, round tight corners and in conditions from ranging from complete calm to large breaking surf (in fact, they were developed originally from life-saving surf rescue craft). Your experience will begin with a briefing on safety and handling, before you head out onto the water with your instructor. He or she will show you exactly what this fantastic craft can do - so prepare for the ride of your life as you speed along, pull tight manoeuvres and hit big air jumps. Depending on the weather and at the instructor's discretion, you might also get the chance to take the helm and try your hand at powering the zapcat across open water. There's a RIB powerboat on standby acting as a support boat, and you'll get a thrilling ride on this too.

    • Two hours racing around in a zapcat on the East Sussex coast
    • Zapcats are light, fast and incredibly manoeuvrable
    • The ride of your life with your instructor at the helm
    • Depending on the weather, you get to take the helm yourself
    • Includes a thrilling ride in a RIB powerboat
  • Key Info

    Availability

Selected Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer season (May to October).

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age is 16 and a minimum height of 5'4''. You must be a confident swimmer. This is an extreme sport and if you have any back or neck problems you won't be able to take part.

    Weather

This experience may be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions which would make racing at speed dangerous. Please call the venue if in any doubt.

    Duration

Can last for up to two hours (dependent on total numbers on the boat and the weather). There will be up to 20 minutes of driving time in the zap cats, the rest of the time you will be a passenger or in the support boat.

    Numbers On Day

There will be up to 10 people taking part - three per Zap Cat including an instructor, with a maximum of two Zap Cats and two support boats out on the water.

    Spectators

Guests are welcome at the marina. Facilities are excellent, including restaurants, a multiplex cinema and jetties packed with high-performance and luxury powerboats. Once you are out in the open water spectators will need binoculars to follow the action.

    Dress Code

Bring a swimming costume, towel and pair of old trainers (that you do not mind getting wet). If it's hot bring sunscreen, if it's cold bring plenty of warm dry clothes to change into. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are provided.

    Other Info

Please don't automatically expect to take the helm - weather conditions might mean that only the instructor can drive the craft safely. Sunglasses with a safety strap can be useful as they will help keep spray out of your eyes.

The power boat was pretty amazing with the boat being thrown around like a toy. The speed you reach is more than enough and it was the best ever water sports experience i have ever had.

A Fantastic Experience Not To Be Missed!

This was a great experience although exhausting. The team who looked after us where brilliant and no pressure to do anything you didnt want too however loads of opportunity to get out and have several go's. Changing rooms, showers available where of a good standard too.

    Really Enjoyable

Great fun, very tiring! Very exciting but a bit disappointed we didn't get to drive the ZapCat - never mind, was all good fun.

    Great Experience

Enjoyed the experience - the team was very competent and the briefing was clear so we felt safe despite the thrilling, mindblowing very wet ride! I've done a number of extreme activities (skydiving, diving with sharks etc) and this was definitely up there in the thrill stakes, but less scary. And I thought the RIB powerboat ride was just as much fun as the Zapcat. Great day - thanks.

    Excellent

One of the best experiences I have ever had on water! It is truly an extreme adventure and would highly recommend it. Staff are very friendly and every part of the excursion, on the zapcat and on the support RIB, was great!

I purchased this for a colleague's 40th and the whole 2 hours was just brilliant. The staff were very friendly and the activity was non stop for 2 hours and we had more time on the zapcats than we expected. Would certainly recommend this if you like an adrenaline event and don't mind the sea water. Would I do it again - yes!

I Have The Bruises, But What An Experience!!

Ok, so I am in a little bit of pain but that will go and the memories will last! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to anyone, just be prepared to hang on tightly. The instructors were very good and their aim was to make it the best experience possible. The waves were pretty big, the sun was out and we sped along Brighton coastline.

    Awesome!!!!!!!

From the start of the day when we phoned the venue for a weather check, the service we received was first class. They made not only us welcome but our families too who had come to spectate. Although this is shown as a zap cat experience you actually get 2 experiences for the price of 1 as the ride on the support boat was just as exhilarating too. Facilities were superb. The showers and toilets were nice and clean and easily accessible. Wet suits, helmets and boots were provided although I would recommend that other participants take swimming goggles as the spray from the sea can be immense. A fab day to remember but not for the faint hearted!!

    Absolutely Fantastic!

I would thoroughly reccommend Zapcatting to anyone who wants an adrenalin rush! Although I am covered in bruises today, it was well worth it for an hour and a half of fun (and a tiny bit of terror!). I will definitely be returning for a second go, but hopefully on a calmer day!!

An experience like zapcat racing is best shared and I chose to share the day with my 19 year old son. We had very calm weather on the day and that meant we could experience the full throttle speed of the zapcat. To get the thrills we utilised the wake of the support boat and any other boat that left the marina. After a bit of practice we were ready to complete the time trials; I was determined that age would triumph over youth but a the end of the day youth won by a split second. We shared a great day out on the zapcats, one that we can talk about for years to come.
