About

Brutal acceleration, extreme G forces and unpredictable sea conditions all add up to a waterborne motorsport experience like no other. These are lightweight, inflatable catamaran hulls with racing engines attached, developed originally from life saving surf rescue craft and are amazingly stable and secure even at high speeds, round tight corners and in conditions ranging from complete calm to large breaking surf. Your experience will begin with a briefing on safety and handling before you head out onto the water with your instructor for 30 minutes of adrenaline charged action (split into three 10 minute stints). You will be shown exactly what this fantastic zapcat can do so prepare for the ride of your life as you speed along, pull tight manoeuvres and hit big air jumps. Depending on the weather and at the instructor's discretion, you may even get the chance to take the helm yourself to try your hand at powering the zapcat across open water.

Key Info

Availability: Selected Saturdays or Sundays at least once a month.
Participant Guidelines: Minimum age is 16 and minimum height 5', max 6'4''. Max weight 18 stone. Non swimmers welcome but be aware this is an extreme sport and not suitable for anyone who has ever suffered any back or neck problems.
Weather: May be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions (fog or high wind) which would make racing at speed dangerous. If this happens, Island Racing will rebook you directly. Please call the centre on the day of your experience if in any doubt.
Duration: Expect to be onsite between one and one and a half hours. Your time in the zapcat will be split into three 10 minute stints, one of which is your actual driviing time if you take the helm.
Numbers On Day: You may share your experience with up to two other participants, as well as your instructor. But only yourself and the instructor are in the zapcat at a time.
Spectators: Guests are welcome to watch you from the shore. Once you are out in the open water spectators will need binoculars to follow the action. Dont forget a camera to catch some great shots.
Dress Code: You'll be provided with a dry-suit to wear over your own clothes (we recommend loose fitting clothing such as tracksuits) to keep you dry and warm. Footwear and safety equipment is also provided. Remember sun-cream in summer, hat and jumper in winter.
Other Info: Please don't automatically expect to take the helm - weather conditions may mean that only the instructor can drive the zapcat safely. Sunglasses with a safety strap can be useful as they will help keep spray out of your eyes.
