  • About

You'll be on board a modern Sigma high-performance manoeuverable keelboat. Meet your instructor and the crew, before heading to the yachts for a safety briefing. Training includes hoisting sails, helming, practising the most efficient methods of manoeuvring the yacht and learning how to keelhaul landlubbers. Then you'll be briefed on the rules of the race, which takes place on a floating 'race track'. You'll participate fully in crewing the yacht during the race, putting into action everything that you've learned and pitting you against the competition and the elements. Afterwards you'll retire to the clubhouse for results, and you're welcome to go for a well earned drink with the instructor and crew in one of the local bars afterwards.

    • Close yacht racing in a Sigma yacht for manoeuvrability
    • A thrilling race round a floating race track
    • Suitable for non-sailors, safety briefing and all equipment included

    Availability

Selected Saturdays and Sundays from April to October. We recommend booking early for this popular experience.

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age is 16 accompanied by another voucher holding adult and 18 unaccompanied. No weight limit applies. You need to be agile enough to get on and off the boat but don't need any previous sailing experience and non-swimmers are welcome.

    Weather

Sailing is a weather dependent activity. It's vital that you call the venue the day before your booking, to confirm conditions and that the experience is going ahead (as there are conditions under which the experience may have to be postponed).

    Duration

Your experience runs for approximately three hours. The actual race normally lasts around 20 minutes, depending on conditions. Please arrive in good time (ideally few minutes in advance).

    Numbers On Day

Up to three boats will race, with a maximum of five people plus an instructor aboard each boat.

    Spectators

Spectators are welcome to come down to the pontoon and wave you off. The race can be viewed from the breakwater or the beach.

    Dress Code

You must wear flat, soft and light-soled, non-marking shoes, eg deck shoes or trainers or you won't be permitted aboard. Wear lots of layers, it can get cold out at sea. Bring extra clothes and sun protection. Life-jackets and sailing gear is provided.

I was given this as a present for my 50th birthday by some good friends. It was a brilliant day out and I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this to anyone who has good sea legs!

Will Definitely Do It Again - It's Brilliant!

Good camaraderie, competent teaching, an almost perfect day for sea and weather conditions - force 4 gusting to 5 and 6 - made the day superb. With the boat leaning and speeding along, with the sun's reflection on the water and with good team work, it was an experience which made us each think once again about upgrading our rusty dinghy skills! Such a difference was made by the welcome we received, both on the phone and in person at reception - well organised, reassuring, courteous and friendly.

    Really Super Day Out, Exciting!

We were blessed with wonderful weather in Brighton on the day and the sailing didn't disappoint. All the members of the crew were afforded the opportunity to perform all the roles on board, take the helm, etc. Working out race tactics and putting them into practice was also very exciting. Being part of the winning crew also made the day that much more memorable ;-) A really good day all round! THANK YOU

Really well organised day with the skipper (Andrej) really passionate about his sailing. It was a real hands on experience and has definitely given me the bug to try out some more sailing courses.

    Such An Exciting Experience!

What a fantastic experience! The organisers were really friendly and welcoming, and they kept the shore-based instruction to a minimum so you got maximum time on the water. There was no holding back once out at sea either, with the instructors letting you push as hard as you were comfortable with (which was further and further as they built your confidence). It was a real rush with the yacht leant right over and the water sweeping along just centimetres from you if you were on the lower side. The racing got quite intense too as you worked hard to be the winning boat. I had a great time - winning all three races helped!

Good Taster Session - And I Want More!

Starting in Brighton Marina on Sunday morning, we were quickly out to the water after the safety briefing. There was 6 of us in the Yacht (1 instructor) and we all had the opportunity to take part in the various tasks in the Yacht guided by the instructor. Day was further enhanced by the fantastic weather. I will certainly be going back next year for more sailing - very useful taster session!

Great half day yacht racing, good team effort, and thanks to the expert tuition from our instructor we crossed the finish line of the race in first position not once but twice! A bottle of bubbly to celebrate before travelling home, tired but happy. The very bumpy sea outside Brighton Marina on the day was not everyone's cup of tea, but the calm re-assurance of the instructor, who kept us all busy on our boat, banished any concerns we might have had.

Very enjoyable day, the only improvements I would like to see is a little more on what I should have brought with me, ie should also bring sunglasses and a drink.
