  • About

This experience is a wonderful opportunity for Shakespeare fans to visit The Globe. The world famous theatre was built in Coliseum style between 1597 -1598 by carpenters Peter Smith and co. Sadly, a fire at the Globe Theatre broke out in June 29 1613 - it was rebuilt the following year but subsequently demolished in 1644 by the Puritan Parliament who had issued an ordinance, suppressing all stage plays two years previously. Today your experience takes you inside this piece of history, with a knowledgeable guide to talk about aspects of Shakespeare's life and works. The exhibition downstairs is also included so you can have a look before you take afternoon tea in the brasserie - a great way to round off your time.

    • Enjoy a fantastic guided tour of Shakespeare's Globe
    • Get a real insight inside the exhibition
    • Finish with a delicious afternoon tea
    • This is living history!

We really enjoyed the Globe - the exhibition before and after, with scope for some interactive activity; the tour itself with an excellent and knowledgeable guide; and the afternoon tea - a great meal and a tea with a difference! The venu for the afternoon tea has superb views across and along the Thames.

So much more interesting than I thought, mainly thanks to the excellent guide - they are all actors. Tea was also lovely - beautiful view over the river and a gorgeous selection of miniature sandwiches and cakes, really fresh ingredients, and the staff were very friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this! The tour was really interesting and fun - and not too long! The museum was full of interesting items and info - leave yourself enough time to look round. To finish it all was a perfect tea - in a perfect setting overlooking the river

Although this was not our first visit to The Globe, this Christmas gift from family was a delightful afternoon out. The tour was humorous and well put together and seeing the changes since our last visit was interesting, particularly as the Exhibition had expanded considerably to include period costumes etc.. After this we were directed to The Swan for our tea. We were fortunate enough to be given a table overlooking the river, which added to our enjoyment. Though the staff were a little slow in serving us, our only reservation, the delicately presented sandwiches and sweets were a visual as well as a culinary delight! All in all, we would recommend this experience wholeheartedly as a very good day out.

Probably one of the most informative visits anywhere in London. The tour guide was most informative and injected a measured level of humour into his presentation in keeping with some of Shakespear's finest! A second tour of the exhibition was essential in order to enjoy everything that was presented as there was more time available to complete this. The afternoon tea for two was delightful with very polite staff where nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The choice of teas, sandwiches and cakes was extremely varied and the atmosphere in the brasserie was perfectly relaxing and the views across the Thames was a grand finale to the day. If there was a downside, this was due to a matinee performance and the tour had to be slightly reduced in order for preparations for the performance to take place. Unfortunately this information does not seem to be available on the website, so an early visit on performence afternoons is essential. Enjoy!

    Fascinating Day Out

A beautiful recreation of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre brilliantly brought to life by a fascinating tour guide telling stories of past glories combined with an exhibition centre full of timelines, old maps of London, stories from the time of the original Globe Theatre and even information about an underground river that still runs through the heart of London even today! A really interesting venue and day out.

Had to queue a short while for tickets, but our guide was enthusiastic, interesting and informative. We were lucky to see rehersals for the Mystery Plays. Enjoyed the clothing demonstration showing the difference in class clothing. Afternoon tea was most enjoyable, staff were very helpful, as we asked if we could dine before our allotted time.

This was my husband christmas present from me and it was spectacular. The Globe Theatre is amazing and the guide helped to bring it to life. Afternoon tea was a lovely way to end the day. The food and service was fantastic with a lovely view over the Thames to St Pauls. We couldn't fault it.

Would we make it? London traffic! It was touch & go. The staff calmed us and put us on the next tour. Guides were knowledgeable in their presentations. Museum very interesting & well laid out.
(toilets everywhere!) . Enjoyed watching the show being set up as we listened to facts about the Globe and it's site and construction. Very relaxed atmosphere. Then Tea in the Brasserie. They had remembered our dietary requirements, we felt very special. Tea & coffee topped up, great view over the Thames, sandwiches delicious, cakes...yum! 5 (little ones)each. 11/10 for the brownie, 10/10 scone, 8-9/10 for the other 3.
Then for a stroll along the banks of the Thames before travelling home. A very full day. Take your time relax and enjoy the experience. Good value for money. I'm off to earn 'some pin money'- if you don't know this phrase you will have to visit the Globe theatre for a guided tour. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

    Really Lovely Afternoon

The tour was done by a very interesting tour guide with a wealth of knowledge - not only on the theatre - but London itself. Very interesting. The afternoon tea was in a lovely restaurant over looking the river too.

The tour and exhibition were fascinating giving a wonderful insight into the world of Shakespeare. Watching some of the rehearsal was really interesting and I particularly enjoyed the costume demonstration. The afternoon tea was a lovely way to relax overlooking the Thames. Apart from the disappointing scone (very solid!) the tea was delicious! I will be recommending this treat to my friends. The only negative comment would be that it was a little confusing about when the tours could be taken - the paperwork suggested they stopped at 12.30 but in fact there were tours after that time.

    What A Lovely Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and were lucky enough to see a rehearsal of a Philip Marlowe play: it was truly thrilling. The Afternoon Tea was so special and the setting and service were exemplary. I wouldn't hesitate to try another Red Letter Day and buy them for friends and family.

The guided tour of the theatre was very interesting and the guide brought the history of the theatre alive by the use of interesting anecdotes. It was wonderful to be able to go into the theatre and experience the atmosphere there. The afternoon tea was beautiful; very fresh and delicious, with excellent service from the staff.
