  • Key Info

    Availability

9am to 10pm, seven days a week. Allow at least four weeks advance notice for weekend bookings. Book during off-peak periods (weekdays, excluding bank holidays, from March to July and September to January) and get an extra 20 minutes' climbing free.

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age is 14. Parental consent is required for under 16s. There are no weight or height restrictions, but the minimum boot size is adult four. You'll need to be reasonably fit; as a guide you should be able to hold a 1kg weight at arms length.

    Duration

Rock climbing will last for around one and a half hours and ice climbing for around two hours. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure a prompt start.

    Numbers On Day

A 1:4 ratio of instructors to climbers gives the best input and most climbing. A maximum of 12 people will be on the wall at any one time.

    Spectators

Spectators are welcome and can watch from a special viewing area. There is a cafe serving hot and cold drinks and a selection of food.

    Dress Code

Wear waterproofs if you have them, and lots of warm layers (multiple thin layers are more effective than a single bulky layer). Climbing equipment, warm clothing and specialist ice-climbing boots will be provided.

    Other Info

The Ice Factor is the National Ice Climbing Centre and at 800 square metres is the world's largest indoor ice-climbing wall, with an ice cave, ice pillar, neve wall and fall-out gully. You must complete and sign a disclaimer in order to take part.

    Great Day

We had a great time at the centre and felt really well looked after. Our instructor Ian, was brilliant throughout and got us straight on the walls. It is a pretty intense introduction so you do need to be pretty fit and prepared for the aches and pains the next day. All in all though well worth it.

    Phenomenal Ice Factor

Set in the stunning location at the end of Loch Leven, The Ice Factor in Kinlochleven is an excellent day out for all the family to test their nerve and stretch their boundaries. For someone who doesn't like heights and who was somewhat apprehensive before going, I have nothing but enthusiasm for this experience, so much so that I will definitely be returning again and hopefully venturing outside into the mountains too. Both the rock wall and the ice wall were simply amazing. The staff at the centre were brilliant, catering for the differences in our ability, lack of experience - and in my case confidence! We just loved the day and came away on a high. On our visits to Scotland in the future, this will now be part of the agenda, time permitting.

A Wonderful Fun Day For Us Both.

The Ice Factor has all the amenities that you need for a day. There is a shop, a cafe and a bar. The instruction was good for both the rock and ice climbing and was tailored to your experience. We had never had the opportunity to climb with crampons and ice axes but were amazed by how quickly we could progress.
