  • About

Come to Wales for a smorgasbord of coasteering and other exciting activity adventures, offering adrenaline junkies a morning heady mix of rock climbing, swimming, scrambling and traversing. Then an afternoon of kayaking, surfing or abseiling (weather permitting) and possibly cliff jumping (for the decent swimmers amongst you, if conditions allow) so slip into the essential wetsuit and secure your safety helmet before you get stuck in. After your coasteering session, break for an hours lunch. The weather in the afternoon will dictate whether you'll be kayaking, surfing or abseiling. The spectacular rocky coastline of St David's peninsulas in Pembrokeshire is truly stunning, so grab the opportunity to explore Britain's only coastal natural park.

    • Traverse the bottom of cliffs - climbing, scrambling, jumping and swimming
    • Work in a small team to figure out the best routes
    • In the afternoon, have a go at either kayaking, surfing or abseiling
    • All equipment included - just bring your sense of adventure
  • Key Info

    Availability

Selected weekend dates. This is a very popular experience and gets very busy in the summer - book at least three months in advance for peak summer dates.

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age is 8. You'll need to be a confident swimmer and reasonably fit. You'll be asked to complete a medical declaration on arrival.

    Weather

If the weather is deemed unsafe (e.g. wind too strong) by TYF Adventure, the experience might be cancelled. Please call the venue before setting out.

    Duration

Two three and a half day sessions which equate to around five hours of activity time, with an hour break for lunch between activities. Please arrive a few minutes in advance of your booked time.

    Numbers On Day

There will be up to 10 people taking part. If there are more than eight of you, there will be two instructors on hand.

    Spectators

Spectators are welcome, although a lot of the action takes place on the cliff face. Viewing is possible from the Pembrokeshire coast path which lines the cliff tops (but safety comes first so do not get close to the edge and steep drop beyond it!)

    Dress Code

Bring old tracksuit bottoms/leggings, trainers, swimwear, shorts, towel and a change of clothes. Your clothes and shoes will get wet. You'll dry off outside before returning to the centre, where hot showers await. A buoyancy aid and wetsuit are provided.

    Other Info

Locally sourced packed lunches are available for £5 per person and must be booked in advance. A choice of second activity (kayaking, surfing or abseiling) is subject to weather and availability on the day.

Thrilling Way To Explore A Glorious Coastline

    * * * * *
    Stephen A, 26 Aug 2011

Coasteering is extreme coastal walking, so rock scrambling and swimming in the sea. The tidal impact zone is a high energy environment so lots of waves which makes for an exciting place to be. One does not have to be a strong swimmer but you should be a capable one. It is important not to be afraid of jumping into water. That first jump off the rock is the real test of nerves. TYF who run this event know what they are doing so where you jump has been risk assesesed and the safety floats keep you at the surface. Coasteering is a great blend of action and the Pembrokeshire coastline is really lovely area to do it on.

A little unsure of what to expect at first, but after kitting up we took a gentle stroll down to the St David's coastline where the adventure began. Scurrying down a well worn path we made it to the seaweed-covered rocks bordering the sea and it's crashing waves. Taking a deep breath one by one we all plunged into the temperate Welsh water, a necessary wakeup call after the 6am alarm to head West. A quick swim and we were already scrambling up the first limpet & barnacle covered rock, to a natural ledge 4m above the sea. Cliff jumping, an exhilarating way to get down or off a rock-quickly, just once was enough for me, opting for a slightly lower ledge the second time. More scrambling and sea-swimming followed by a 15 minute play in-between two rocks where the waves swirled around and pushed you through. Another scramble, this time to about a 6m ledge followed by a cave walk and last minute battering by the incoming tide. A steady climb back up the rock and cliff face & back to the hut.

    Excellent Day!!

A really good way to meet new people . all you need to do is turn up, they provide all saftey gear, wetsuit wet socks, bouyancy vest and helmet so you know your in good hands. Its a must for anybody who fancies trying something a little bit different and if your not sure whether to try it or not then get it booked you've got nothing to loose and i cant gaurantee it but im pretty sure you'll have a great day. We did rock climbing and abseiling in the afternoon which was really good aswell, there is no pressure at all you only do what your comfortable doing and they work the activities around all the group. GIVE IT A GO. It might be just the start you need to get into that active lifestyle your always thinking about starting next week.!!

The actual event was amazingly well arranged. Our guide for the day, 'Emma' was brilliant, she was there at the drop of a hat when i fell off the rocks and into the sea, ready to help me. It was scary, yet fantastic to feel a massive adrenalin rush like never before....but reassuring to have such an experienced/fun guide to assist us.

What a fantastic birthday present! The booking procedure was easy and the communication from Red Letter Days was timely and provided me with all the information I needed to be well prepared for my day of coasteering and sea kayaking. Look forward to using Red Letter Days again...

A Crazy Afternoon Jumping Into The Sea

A fantastic location on the Pembrokeshire coast, excellent group leader and people came together to throw themselves into the sea. It was cold, it took some nerve and your breath away. We all worked together puching ourselves for higher and higher jumps so that all could achieve and have a great time. I also went sea kayaking, again with an excellent group leader. In no time at all I was busy playing in the waves, exploring the tricks played by the tide in between the rocks. Special mention to the two Emmas as the group leaders.

    Great Afternoon Of Activity!

We were not sure what the day is going to be like, so the Coasteering session has exceeded our expectations! We were accompanied by a very friendly guide and we had a lot of fun exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline, learning about the sea and its inhabitants and most of all, jumping into the sea over and over to our heart's content! It was a great afternoon and I strongly recommend it to everyone looking for a bit of thrill and a challenge. We were surprised as we expected to be freezing cold and exhausted by the end of the session, but our wetsuits kept us nice and toasty and we were appropriately tired, but very happy! One recommendation: bring a waterproof camera, the sights are amazing and always good fun to take pics of each other wearing a helmet and buoyancy aid and jumping head-first into the sea!

    Memories For A Lifetime

I did this experience with a friend and it gave us memories that will last us for our lifetime. The day was extremely fun but also taxing, making it more worthwhile. We had the full day course and enjoyed abseiling/rock climbing in the afternoon. Alongside the adrenaline that comes from jumping the cliffs, the views were something we will always remember. The beauty and serenity of the coast made it all the better. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good fun filled action-packed day.

I would probably not have done anything like this if I hadn't been bought this Red Letter Day as a 50th birthday gift. Once I booked my day, the response from Red Letter Days was very quick and everything was organised without any hitches.
