  • About

Get up close and personal with some of nature's magnificent and regal birds of prey and learn all about the art of falconry. Your experience starts with a tour of the bird of prey centre, where you'll get close to different species and learn what makes a hawk a hawk, a falcon a falcon and an owl an owl. Then get expert tuition in the art of falconry and take time to handle the birds so that you get comfortable with one another. Next it's time to try out falconry for real - you'll fly some birds to the fist, watching them show off their skills and get some thrills medieval-style when a top predator comes into land on your glove.

    • Spend some time at a falconry centre meeting Britain's top predators
    • Learn about the history of falconry and the different types of birds
    • Get comfortable handling different species
    • Fly birds of prey to the glove - there's nothing else like it

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

A fabulous day, learnt so much and achieved one of my 'must do' things, The Hawk Conservancy at Andover is a great place for a day out and the bird of prey experience is second to none, Nick and Mike who were the instructors were brilliant and ensured everyone (5 of us,didn't know anyone else), were relaxed and knew what we were doing, we got to fly harris hawks, a vulture, 2 different types of owl, and we also got to hold a Bald Eagle, all I can say again is what a great experience, if you haven't done it, should be on your must do list, after our session finished we went to watch one of the flying displays, great fun

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

A highly personal experience given by a true professional, intelligent and driven man. His enthusiasm is infectious and the knowledge he imparts is done in a way that any teacher would be proud of. Taking a Harris Hawk for a walk through the fields, seeing it fly free following your route and returning to your glove when you want it to was a remarkable and unexpected event. I am so glad we chose Ben Long Falconry for our Red Letter Day.

Very Interesting And Very Enjoyable Day...

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

I had a very interesting and very enjoyable afternoon at Ben Long Falconry. Being able to fly different birds and land on your hand and feed was just amazing. Watching them chase and catch the lure was so incredible. Watching the hawks catch the lure that was connected to a kite was really interesting, just seeing what they can do is amazing. Ben Long was very interesting and very helpful and certainly knows his stuff...Overall a very good afternoon, certainly worth every penny...Thank You very much Ben Long......

    Introduction To Birds of Prey

I took my mother to the Falconary introduction for mothers day last Sunday. She is eighty years old and had a superb time and was looked after very well. They (the staff) played it just right as I watched from a distance. So much so I'm going in a few weeks myself.

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

Ben Long, (Master Falconer) was really interesting, very knowlegeable but pitched it just right for we beginners. We were told about all aspects of the falconry from the weighing and feeding to the flying out. There were just four of us which meant that all had plenty of hands on experience with the falcons. The day should have been from 1.20pm to 4.30pm but we had an extra hour which was unexpected. I would highly recommend this Red Letter Day.

    Extremely Enjoyable!

    Introduction To Hawking

This was a Not To Be Missed experience. If anyone has doubts on whether they will enjoy it, I can certaintly thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants to get close up to magnificent birds of prey, and have the exprience of handling these amazing birds and observing their natural hunting skills. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about their birds, especially Ed, who had a wealth of exprience in handling and training the birds. Along with the birds of prey there are numerous other animals to be seen, for example Cheetas, huskies, reptiles and camels etc. Well worth a visit!

    Absolutley Brilliant

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

We were slightly dubious on arrival at the venue - very difficult to find and no signs so we wondered what we were going to get. However, we enjoyed an excellent day. The falconer was extremely knowledgeable, clearly loved his birds and took plenty of time to talk us threw the birds and we learnt a lot. There was a lot of time spent flying the birds and watching them train. There were only 2 people on the experience which made it very individual but guests were welcome to observe meaning that everyone enjoyed the day. Good value for money - would recommend.
