  • About

Get up close and personal with some of nature's magnificent and regal birds of prey and learn all about the art of falconry. Your experience starts with a tour of the bird of prey centre, where you'll get close to different species and learn what makes a hawk a hawk, a falcon a falcon and an owl an owl. Then get expert tuition in the art of falconry and take time to handle the birds so that you get comfortable with one another. Next it's time to try out falconry for real - you'll fly some birds to the fist, watching them show off their skills and get some thrills medieval-style when a top predator comes into land on your glove.

    • Spend some time at a falconry centre meeting Britain's top predators
    • Learn about the history of falconry and the different types of birds
    • Get comfortable handling different species
    • Fly birds of prey to the glove - there's nothing else like it

    Introduction To Birds of Prey

Mike at The Cotswold Falconry Centre was an excellent host and provided the small group of us with a fascinating introduction to falconry. The morning literally flew by as we handled several birds of prey before going off to fly some. The display was first class and the day ended with us holding a bald eagle. I would recommend this experience wholeheartedly as it exceeded my expectations.

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

Arrived just a little early, so waited in the car and Ben came to greet us. Had an interesting chat regarding the birds of prey and a nice cup of coffee. Then the exciting stuff! Got to handle many birds and they flew fist to fist between my husband, myself and the trainer. We were spoilt as there was only the two of us, so it seemed extra special. It's so peaceful there and a great way to escape the stresses of life. We met Bens partner and also spent time with his assistant who's been with him for three weeks. I particulary felt 'at home' and very comfortable during our visit. I would definately recommend this venue, it's quite unique. Ben certainly knows his stuff. What a lovely life and way to live. Would like to go again and take friends or family next time so they too can experience it. We took a camera and intended to take photos but the time went so fast and we were so fascinated with the birds we forgot. Didn't want to come home really!

    Outstanding Experience

An unique opportunity to experience these magnificent birds up close and see them in action. Very good value for money. We really felt that the birds welfare was paramount and it is an experience we plan on revisiting one day.

Very friendly 'low key' site with much of interest. Staff exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgable. A 'real' falconry experience with much hands-on activity - not just demo flying.

    Absolutely Fantastic

I bought this experience for my husband for Christmas. What an absolutely fantastic day. The whole team at The Imperial Bird of Prey Acadamy at Barleylands in Essex were very very friendly, informative and patient and made us very welcome. He was allowed to handle and fly the birds all afternoon and the way they treated us made the day even more special. We cannot recommend them and this day highly enough. The great memories will last forever. Thank you.

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

This was a fantastic opportunity to see birds of prey up close and marvel at their speed, agility and beauty. I was also impressed by the falconers care and attention of the birds, and the skill they had in handling them. The staff were friendly and as I was the only one on this experience (with it being February), I had one to one attention, and learnt a great deal. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in birds.

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

A fabulous day, learnt so much and achieved one of my 'must do' things, The Hawk Conservancy at Andover is a great place for a day out and the bird of prey experience is second to none, Nick and Mike who were the instructors were brilliant and ensured everyone (5 of us,didn't know anyone else), were relaxed and knew what we were doing, we got to fly harris hawks, a vulture, 2 different types of owl, and we also got to hold a Bald Eagle, all I can say again is what a great experience, if you haven't done it, should be on your must do list, after our session finished we went to watch one of the flying displays, great fun

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

A highly personal experience given by a true professional, intelligent and driven man. His enthusiasm is infectious and the knowledge he imparts is done in a way that any teacher would be proud of. Taking a Harris Hawk for a walk through the fields, seeing it fly free following your route and returning to your glove when you want it to was a remarkable and unexpected event. I am so glad we chose Ben Long Falconry for our Red Letter Day.

Very Interesting And Very Enjoyable Day...

    Introduction to Birds of Prey

I had a very interesting and very enjoyable afternoon at Ben Long Falconry. Being able to fly different birds and land on your hand and feed was just amazing. Watching them chase and catch the lure was so incredible. Watching the hawks catch the lure that was connected to a kite was really interesting, just seeing what they can do is amazing. Ben Long was very interesting and very helpful and certainly knows his stuff...Overall a very good afternoon, certainly worth every penny...Thank You very much Ben Long......

    Introduction To Birds of Prey

I took my mother to the Falconary introduction for mothers day last Sunday. She is eighty years old and had a superb time and was looked after very well. They (the staff) played it just right as I watched from a distance. So much so I'm going in a few weeks myself.

    Great Day
