  • About

An eagle in flight is an amazing site - but since eagles' natural habitats tend to be very isolated, it's also a rarity. Begin the experience with an informative guided tour of the birds of prey centre and get up close and personal with the various resident eagles. Enjoy expert one-to-one tuition on bird handling and learn a selection of training techniques. After a break for lunch, step out into the picturesque countryside with a professional instructor and fly an eagle to the glove (in Yorkshire and Gloucestershire get the chance to fly more than one species of eagle). Falconry experience days offer an incredible opportunity to see these majestic creatures up close and get a unique perspective of their breathtaking flight.

    • A day handling eagles and learning all about them
    • Tour the centre seeing various different birds of prey
    • Expert personal instruction on handling the birds
    • Go out into open countryside and fly the eagle to glove

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

The birds are all beautiful and extremely well looked after by knowledgable, passionate and super friendly staff. We learned so much about each bird and got the chance to fly 7 different types to the glove, including 3 eagles!!! The hotel where breakfast and lunch is served is beautiful, and the food was yummy. An amazing full day out!

Fantastic day. What a privilege to see so many beautiful birds and have them fly to your glove. To get so close to them was amazing. I loved the day from start to finish. The view from the hotel where we had our lunch was pretty special too.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

The Eagle Handling Day was absolutely amazing and a wonderful experience. We were in West Yorkshire, and Matt, our handler for the day, was lovely. He told us all about the birds and then during the day we handled two owls, one hawk and three eagles. Lunch was at the nearby hotel. I would like to say a big thank you to Matt for making the day so special. He was very thoughtful to newcomers such as myself and clearly had a never ending knowledge of the birds. I would thoroughly recommend the West Yorkshire location for this activity. You will never forget it.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

We chose the Coniston Falconry Centre for our experience, out in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire dales, it has excellent natural surroundings in which to see the birds fly. We were able to handle a number of different birds from owls and hawks in the morning, to the magnificent eagles (bataleur, steppe and golden) in the afternoon. In addition we enjoyed watching flying displays by the falcons and a barn owl. Having an eagle glide toward you and land on your hand is a memorable experience. The large birds weigh over 4kg so I was thankful for the aid of the instructor to prop up my arm after it began to ache after subsequent flights. The three falconers were confident and knowledgeable, each with a different speciality and interest in the birds (physiology, psychology and history) which gave the presentations a good mix of information. We had a satisfying lunch at the nearby hotel. I can recommend this experience to anyone with a love of birds of prey or an interest in falconry.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

We were lucky enough to be hosted by Geoff Dalton, who founded the falconry. His knowledge and in depth explanations especially about the birds' conservation, breeding and upkeep made this a fascinating and memorable day. Brilliant to be up close and personal with the birds which look so much bigger when perched on your glove and coming towards you at a rate of knots! Excellent lunch, but it was the personal approach and expertise which Geoff was so willing to share which made it special.

What a day! Brilliant staff. Very informative. We both learnt so much. The venue is truly exceptional in the breeding work they do and the care taken of all the birds. The eagles were wonderful to fly to the glove. Will definitely be going back for more.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

The location was excellent. The instructor was extremely knowledgable and made us feel at ease. The birds were all amazing. Having such a magnificent bird, just under a stone in weight, with bone crushing talons land on your arm is so overwhelming. I'm totally humbled by the whole experience, and how lucky I am to have done it. I don't think it's all sunk in yet? Loved every second of the day. Any respect I had for these birds before the day has multiplied by 100's after spending a day with them. The location is beautiful and the hotel provided excellent food and service for breakfast and lunch. Staff were helpful and friendly. I really cannot fault any part of the day. A warm thank you to everyone for making it so special.

    Superb!

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

Spellbinding and dramatic are the correct words for this day out. We are experienced bird watchers and had already had two other gifts of days with birds of prey else where in the county but none matched this. The birds were obviously cared for and well looked after by a very dedicated and knowedgable staff. Lunch was splendid too. Would recommend this to anyone who needs a special and informative as well as thrilling day out.

A Wonderful Dayand Some Great Photos To Keep.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

A fantastic & most enjoyable day which started as soon as we arrived to the moment we left. Arrive on time before it opens to the public & meet the very friendly staff over a cup of tea or coffee followed by a personal tour of all the aviaries with Mike. A very knowledgeable chap, happy to answer any questions you may have. Then the first of the flying displays taken by Chris who is full of character & very good at keeping everyone entertained whilst handling the birds! Break off for an hour and have a wonderful lunch at a country pub just down the road. Nice drive through Batsford Arboretum on the way back to the falconry centre. Then it's time to get up close & personal with many birds of prey. We must have had a dozen different birds all in all on our glove ranging from Harris Hawk to Golden & Bold Eagle. Finally you get the opportunity to either go out to the Cotswold countryside or stay within the grounds to personally fly some of these magnificent birds of prey & watch them come!

I Will Be Going Back For More!

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

Lovely Hotel with very pleasant, polite, obliging staff and a lovely breakfast. Excellent variety of birds in the Falconry - all extremely well looked after and healthy. Staff had an exceptionally high level of experience and knowledge in all aspects of the birds, their environment and behaviour, etc. We actually flew quite a few of the falcons and all three of their eagles to the glove a number of times. The surroundings are breath-taking and it was a truly fantastic day we felt privileged to have experienced. There are other experiences available too and the next one we will be booking is the Hunting with Eagles.

    Fantastic Experience

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

We both had a great day, getting a guided tour around the centre and expert knowledge from those involved. It was good to learn more about what is involved in looking after the birds and the conservation work they are involved in around the world. The highlight obviously being able to handle the birds, from the smaller Falcon to the very large the Golden Eagle.

    Great Day! Unforgetable

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

I went into this not quite sure what to expect other than being able to fly an eagle. However, the experience is much more than that, we got to handle several eagles, fly them out in the wild and learn about them and their behaviour. If you are a fan of animals and like to experience them up close this is a must have experience.

    Brilliant Day Out.

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our day at the falconry centre. The staff were all very friendly and our personal guide was extremely knowedgable and enthusiastic about the birds. We got to meet and learn about all the resident birds of prey, then handled a variety - owls and hawks as well as eagles. We were treated to a delicious lunch in the local pub, and got to fly 3 eagles in the afternoon. I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in these beautiful birds. The lovely grounds and perfect spring weather helped make it a brilliant day out!

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

Everything about this day at Eagle Heights was first class. Being introduced to the eagles and flying them from the glove, feeling them land gentle on your gloved hand and the breeze across your face from their wings. Some of these birds are big but not intimitating, some are small and cheeky and all were a joy to interact with. Ed, our guide and instructor was brilliant. His knowledge of the birds added so much to the experience. He help set up photo opportunities, and the photos are good, and took us to different locations so we could fly birds over open ground and in wooded areas. All the staff at Eagle Heights were friendly and helpful and the day went without a hitch. The day was a present from my daughter to me and my son (her brother) for my 70th and his 40th birthdays. We coundn't have had anything better.

A Fabulous Day Which I Will Always Remember

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

From our first arrival at the hotel for coffee and bacon sandwiches to the last minute when we had to say goodbye to the fabulous birds and Mark! Every little thing about the day was just perfect. We met all of the birds and Mark told us loads about each of them so that we understood each bird and the differences between the different types. Mark tailored everything about the day to what we wanted to get out of it - which was a chance to learn more about these fabulous creatures and to meet some of them. Then we moved on to flying the birds starting with Bombadil the Owl, then Bucky the Harris Hawk and in the afternoon we got chance to fly all 3 eagles who were definitely the stars of the show - Boris, Batty and Genghis all glorious creatures. Up close you really get to appreciate their intelligence and strength. We both had chance for each of the birds to come to us individually on several occasions. This is an incredible day and we will definitely be going back!

    Feathery Fun!

    Eagle Handling Day for Two

Really interesting day, saw about 100 birds of prey from about 40 different species (Eagles, Owls, Hawks, Vultures, etc) and spent time learning to fly 4 birds including a large Sea Eagle. A very different experience, and certainly not just for bird lovers but for anyone who loves animals.

A Very Very Enjoyable Day Out
