    We know that spending an hour in a tank of water might sound at first like a David Blaine-style stunt but in fact, this experience is all about total relaxation. Lie in a quiet, darkened room in a warm solution of Epsom salts, about 10 inches deep and so dense that floating will seem effortless (no need to be able to swim). Epsom salts are made from naturally occurring minerals and have long been renowned for their health and beauty benefits, including easing stress and soothing muscles. Gentle music will play to help you wind down and drift into a near-meditative state of complete calm. Afterwards, take a refreshing shower before returning to the outside world feeling utterly chilled out.

    Availability

    Most centres are open seven days a week and many during evenings and weekends.

    Participant Guidelines

    Some venues specify minimum age 16 or 18. Do advise us of any skin conditions (salty water can sting!). You are in total control of your environment at all times and don't need to be able to swim. Women in the initial stage of pregnancy may be precluded.

    Duration

    You'll spend about an hour relaxing in the floatation tank, but allow for time either side to undress, shower, get dressed and have some refreshments.

    Numbers On Day

    You will be alone in a private float room, complete with shower.

    Dress Code

    You don't have to wear a swimming costume unless you want to. A private shower and towels will be provided.

    Please check with us as to which venues have more than one float tank if you wish to book more than one person at the same time.

    My hour in the flotation tank was the most peaceful, relaxing hour of my very busy week. It did everything it said on the tin (as they say). I would recommend it to anyone, it really makes you feel so relaxed, yet refreshed at the same time. Glad I got my red letter day gift card, best present anyone could give. Thanks

    This was the second time I floated and I found it much more relaxing this time as I knew what to expect. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I made sure i applied vaseline that they gave to any little cuts and sensitive parts that I thought may sting as last time I found the salt water uncomfortable and then got in. The float was really good. Afterwards I particularly liked the shower wash, shampoo and conditioner. Just would love to do it every week.

    Enjoyed the experience. Being a 'first timer' didn't know what to expect. Managed to relax, was hoping to nod off but didn't quite manage that. Maybe after two or three visits that might be achievable. Shame I had to follow it up with train journey home.

    Very nicely decorated (cream and brown) and well appointed lounge area to get changed in with lots of Clarins products laid out on a dressing table to use after the floatation. Tank itself was lovely and warm, quite large and you control the light level yourself. Piping hot shower afterwards with lots of warm fluffy towels and expensive hair care products available to use and hairdryer. Staff could not have been nicer, even laying out a tray with a glass and a carafe of cool water which went down a treat after being in the tank for 45mins. All in all a very relaxing and totally pampering experience which I would not hesitate to repeat. Very good value for money.

    I do triathlon and my friends bought this for me as a gift to have after a hard race. It was perfect and the epsom salts do the trick to the muscles. Anyone who is into sports would also love this as much as I did.
