In theory, the 911 Turbo should not be the fantastic drive that it is. Positioning the engine behind the rear wheels should lead to an unbalanced car, but five decades of developing and honing the chassis and suspension has resulted in the tremendously capable Porsche 997 Turbo. With a devoted fan base worldwide, the latest incarnation of this design icon has 472bhp and a top speed of 193mph. In short, a spin in this legendary car is sure to satisfy any driving enthusiast. You'll start with a briefing on safety and driving techniques, then your instructor will drive for three laps in a Mazda 3 MPS to show you the driving lines. Next you'll get into the driving seat for four laps in a Porsche Cayman, four in the new Porsche 997 Turbo and five either in a Ginetta G20 or a 1.7 litre Formula Renault - either way, with lightning-quick steering and braking, both these dynamos give a totally different ride to the Porsche.

Participant Guidelines: You must be under 6'3'' tall and weigh less than 18 stone. You also need to hold a full British or international manual driving licence. On the day you'll be asked to confirm that you're in good health, with no disability that could impair your driving.
Weather: Driving may be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions like strong winds, snow or flooding, which would make driving at speed dangerous. Call the venue if in any doubt. Any unused laps will be credited for another visit.
Duration: Your experience lasts approximately three hours, including briefing, safety guidance, demo laps, driving time and debrief.
Numbers On Day: All in-car tuition is one-to-one (but for demo laps). The briefings will be shared.
Spectators: Spectators are welcome and a camera will come in handy. The venue offers good facilities for spectators and drivers alike. Pets are not permitted at any circuits.
Dress Code: Wear trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and narrow, flat-soled shoes, as the pedals in these cars can be close together. Natural fibres like cotton, rather than synthetics like nylon are preferable.
Availability: Selected weekdays from March to November at Croft or from February to December at Thruxton.
