  • About

Tuck into a delicious food and wine picnic hamper and watch the Napoleonic Cavalry and Infantry displays early on, before a volley of shots from a vintage field gun opens proceedings, followed by a choreographed display from Carolyn Grace in her LF Mark IX Spitfire to accompany the beautiful opening pieces. The New English Concert Orchestra performs some powerful classical music, including Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with live cannon fire and Beethoven's Battle Symphony (complete with 193 live cannons and muskets). Celebrations culminate in a traditional flag waving proms finale with Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and other favourites led by Channel 4's winning soprano Denise Leigh. The evening closes with an amazing firework display!

    • Includes a spitfire air display, evening gun salute and fireworks
    • With soprano Denise Leigh, conductor Douglas Coombes and presenter Pam Rhodes

We really enjoyed the event. The picnic hamper was very good and the entertainment, especially the Spitfire flying display, was excellent. Even the rain didn't spoil the day.

Amazing from start to finish, everything was perfect, the muisic and spitfire display interspersed with live canon and musket fire. The picnic was scrummy and inluded a bottle of wine, and the fire work display to round off the evening was true to its description- SPECTACULAR. We will definitely go again.

This was a 60th Birthday present, and something which made me 'step outside my usual box' of golf and TV. The whole evening from start to finish was fantastic. From the weather, the setting at Highclere Castle, the Spitefire display, and the Picnic Hamper was superb. This was it's 11th year, and I wish that I had not missed the previous 10! Well done Red Letter Days for including this on your special days, it could not have been better. Rob Wilkes

Despite having to queue for almost an hour to get parked the spitfire display was worth it on its own. Music was excellent and to top it off the hamper provided was simply scrumptious.

Having never experienced a Red Letter Day event before, we anticipated a certain amount of gloss and hype, but were delightfully pleased with the realisation. Disappointment was a word that never entered the vocabulary for the evening. We had a lovely evening, the hamper was excellent and did not skimp on portions. The spitfire and Napoleonic displays were really good and the fireworks were tremendous. We are now considering going again next year!

Everything was well organised and although it had been raining the skies cleared early enough for the Spitfire to grace the skies and give us a splendid view of the markings. The Jazz Band starting the Concert livened us all with their renditions of Trad Jazz and the sopranos could not have been better in fact their voices were pure heaven. We collected our Hamper and the selection of food and wine hit just the right spot. All round a super day and evening.

    Wonderful Evening

    Wet! - But Worth It

    Burghley House

I would suggest more personnel to check in those who did not already have tickets, it took some considerable time to be processed. Possibly more big screens to watch the concert on. A slicker operation in getting cars off site after the concert would have been appreciated.
