  • About

Strapped into the open cockpit with legs stretched out into the nose of the car, the steering wheel in front of you and the gearstick between your legs. You're only a couple of inches off the ground, can feel every bump and vibration and you'll have to fight not to oversteer, as your super-responsive car reacts to every tiny adjustment. This is driving at its limits, as done by the pros. Start with a safety briefing about high-speed driving. At selected locations you'll warm up with a session in a race-prepared sports saloon or sports car with your instructor, to learn the racing line and hone your circuit driving technique. Then strap in to the single-seater, driving solo, putting all the theory into practice.

    • Full briefing from qualified instructors
    • Learn about racing lines and driving at speed
    • Drive an F1-style single-seater round a motor racing circuit
  • Key Info

    Availability

Most circuits operate at weekends and on selected weekdays. Weekends are always busy; please allow several weeks advance booking notice.

    Participant Guidelines

You need a full manual driving licence (bring it with you on the day). Restrictions vary according to venue but as a guide the maximum weight is between 16 and 18 stone, minimum height is 5' to 5'2'' and maximum is 6'2'' to 6'5''.

    Weather

Motor racing may be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions (like snow, ice or severe rain) which would make driving at speed dangerous. Give the venue a ring if you're in any doubt.

    Duration

Sessions vary from circuit to circuit, but as a guide your experience will last for one to two hours including briefing, tuition, driving time and a debrief.

    Numbers On Day

The number of participants varies; as a guide there will be around 20 people taking part, sharing six cars.

    Spectators

Spectators are welcome, get them to bring a camera. Spectator facilities vary from circuit to circuit but are generally very good. Pets are not allowed at any circuit.

    Dress Code

Wear trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and slim, flat-soled shoes, as the pedals in these cars are close together. Don't wear nylon. A helmet will be provided or you can bring your own if you have one (it will be safety checked before driving).

My husband loved the single seater driving experience even if he did spin off the track at one point! Lots if waiting around for the family though next time he would go with a mate.

    Excellent Couple Of Hours!!!

    Three Sisters Race Circuit

Well organised, good facilities for non participants. Two or three laps in a sports saloon with instructor to get the feel of the track then let loose with the formula Ford. The FF cars are very basic, steering wheel, starter switch and geer lever (on the rhs!) no speedo or rev counter but they are certainly fast enough to get the thrill of a racing experience. Only critisism is that the Three Sisters Track is quite small and there's only the back straight where you can really get the power on. Overall though a very enjoyable couple of hours for me and my family.

Enjoyed every minute, and everyone was very helpful and friendly. The briefing was really helpful and educational! Now I will watch Formula 1 with a great deal more interest ... and respect.

The day was professionally organised from start to finish. From the first friendly welcome, through professional guidance and tuition to helpful reviewing of the day and super photographs to record the days events. The site was very accessible to accompanying family and they too were made to feel welcome and not a nuisance - even being invited to attend the drivers briefing. We will be back soon.

The whole experience from start to finish was done in such a professional, friendly and inclusive way not only me but also my family, who also thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. This is something I have wanted to do for years and every moment was beautifully attended to. The humour brought to the occassion by the staff helped to relax me and make the day even more memorable. Top drawer treatment.

    An Exciting Experience

During an educational session with an instructor we were shown how to get the best out of the track. This involved heading for cones on the outside of the track to indicate the point at which we should turn into the corner. We then head to point towards the exit point marked by a board with an X. It certainly helped to do a smooth lap. We were then kitted out in overalls and helmets to take to the single seaters. There was so much to think about but the experience was exciting especially the long straight where I was able to hit maximum revs (around 100 MPH)

    It Was An Unforgettable Day

A really good day out, will do it again soon, very well looked after - even my 3 year old son got to sit in a Lambo and a single seater racing car with a helmet and gloves on just like his dad, which made his day!! Thanks to the guys at Goodwood!

Well organised, with good tuition, but still giving the opportunity to push the car to what feels like the limit.

The whole experience was superb. Drive a porsche as fast as you can, then follow the racing lines in a single seater. Finally sit in with an expert driver and lose your breath as he drives you around at lightning speeds. I would recommend the day to anyone ... a brill thrill!!

WOW, what a morning! The staff were welcoming to me, my 4 year old son and my father. All the cars were on display for a nose around and catering facilities were up and running. Registration was a simple form done in a minute, followed by a very informative briefing session. Then the fun began... 3 laps with an instructor and 2 other drivers demonstrating the braking, turning points and other lumps and bumps in the track. Next up, 4 laps in a Porsche Cayman - you driving and an instructor talking you through the lap, each lap getting progressively better! That alone was worth the day! The main event, several laps in a single seater racing car! You're out there on your own trying to remember everything you've learnt, hoping the guy with the PIT NOW board will lose count! All together an unforgettable day that I would repeat in a heartbeat!

Fantastic Afternoon On The Race Track

    Steven R, 24 Apr 2009
    Croft Circuit

What an amazing afternoon, from the training through to the final lap in a two man racer, this was a training day to remember. My initial thoughts were 'I'm not too bothered about the Mazda and the Porsche, just get me in the racers'. It soon becomes obvious that the other vehicle experiences are all part of a strategic build up to give drivers the best experience they can get once they climb into the F3 cars. And just when you think you're the new Lewis Hamilton, you get into the twin racers and discover that you're but a snail in the great race of life. A fantastic day out, well put together, we were well looked after all day, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I would like to thank RLD and Donington Park for putting on a terrific experience day. Driving the single seater was very exhilarating and slightly nerve wracking. Luckily the expert guidance from the brilliant instructors helped put me at ease.

    Donington Park Race Circuit

A belated birthday present from my girlfriend that was very enjoyable in spite of the weather trying to dictate otherwise. An added bonus was the car used to teach us the track, the best lines and get a feel for driving at speed - a MINI Cooper S Works. Having owned a MINI for 5 years it was a real treat to drive one on the track. A wet session in the single seaters highlighted the need for excellent car control, as the limit is a lot lower on greasy tarmac! It all added to the sense of fun. Donington is an excellent venue with friendly and enthusiastic staff. If you visit make sure you allow extra time to visit the Grand Prix collection as well. All in all - highly enjoyable.

    Goodwood Motor Circuit

Having driven an innumerable amount of 'everyday' motor cars, climbing in (or should I say shoe-horning myself) into a tiny cockpit of a Formula 2000 F1 style racer and roaring around a race circuit was a very exciting experience indeed!
