As England's largest single estate vineyard, Denbies is an idyllic location to indulge in a spot of cheese and winemaking. Begin with Danish pastries, tea and coffee on arrival, before heading to Norbury Blue to get hands-on with each step of the cheese making process, from 'cutting' the curds and whey, to loading the moulds. Afterwards, Denbies put on a tasty three-course hot lunch, which is followed by a wine tasting session - sample a selection of award-winning estate wines under the guidance of an in-house expert. Spend the rest of the day working in the winery and learn aspects of the production process, including wine blending and grape variety.
One Thursday date per month throughout the year.
This experience involves alcohol, so the minimum age is 18. Disabled visitors are welcome as the venue offers wheelchair access.
This experience is only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions. If unsure, please contact Denbies Wine Estate to confirm (they can re-arrange the trip if necessary).
Expect to be at the vineyard for a minimum of seven hours, including one hour for dining. All timings are approximate and may have to be rescheduled to fit in with the workings of the vineyard and winery.
Share the tour with a maximum of 11 other budding cheese and wine connoisseurs.
Some time is spent outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather on the day with comfortable shoes.
The day exceeded all expectations. Cheese making great fun staff could not have been better. Denbies was professional but at same time informal and everyone was made to feel part of the overall experience. Luckily we had a great group of people all interacting and positive. The group could have been a bit smaller we were told no more than twelve, we had eighteen just as well we all got on but made interacting at lunch more like sitting at long bench having school dinners. Would have been a bonus if we could have taken a train ride round the vineyard did expect that to be part of day.
I took my dad for his 60th birthday as we both love cheese and wine. I really enjoyed the whole day, everyone who ran it was clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about what they do - cheese and wine making. He really loved it too, in all it was a really nice day. I also thought it was great value for money, too.
