Whether a novice or an experienced rider, you'll love this riding day. Staff always appreciate an early arrival so you can get registered and help make sure the experience begins promptly and runs to time. Start with a half hour to one hour lesson within the grounds of the riding school, during which your instructor will assess your abilities to plan your next activity. Then continue with your lesson in the grounds or go out on a hack (including walk and trot) in lovely countryside or woodland. On your first visit, cantering is not allowed outside the arenas. You'll have three hours riding the hack, taking place before and after a typical stable hands lunch with everyone around the big table in the farmhouse.
At least one date per week throughout the year.
Min age is seven. Maximum weight is 14.5 stone (venue reserve the right to weigh on the day). No riding experience necessary, this day is suitable for total beginners. The mount is matched with riders age, weight and any riding experience.
Riding may be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather (e.g. heavy rain or snow) for your safety as well as that of your horse. If you have any concerns about the weather, please call the venue before leaving home.
Riding time will be around three hours and lunch will last approximately two hours, with time to enjoy (and properly digest!) your meal before getting back into the saddle.
Groups normally average six people. The maximum size is eight.
Spectators are welcome and can join you for lunch at a cost of £10 per person, payable on the day by cash or cheque only.
Wear comfortable clothes (e.g. leggings, jodhpurs or track suit bottoms) with wellingtons or riding boots. Jeans, trainers and lace-up shoes are not recommended. You can wear your own hat (if it conforms to safety standards) or the venue can provide one.
Smoking is only permitted in the dedicated area. Please bring your booking confirmation with you on the day. Both the farmhouse or the lovely converted stables here offer bed and breakfast accommodation.

Good fun with a very cheerful greeting from the staff
Staff worked very hard and gave us a day to remember. Enthusiastic.
From the moment of my arrival yesterday until departure, everyone was so welcoming & helpful! A big thank you to Mario our instructor for making the day such fun, Mark for a great welcome, Maggie for a lovely lunch & the others in our group who were so friendly! Would def. recommend this activity. I hope to return soon.
This was for my daughter. She had a great day and didn't want the day to end.
I am 64 and had never been on a horse, so I was a little nervous. All the staff put me at ease straight away, and I had the most amazing day and hope to go back in the very near future and do it all again.
Fab day. Great horses. A must for anyone who loves horses or wants to give it a try.
As there were only two of us it made it more interesting as it was like having just one to one tuition. The teacher, Mark was very good and the horses cleary knew they had leaners on them. I would happily do it again.
A day I will never forget! Thanks to Mark and his girls for making my day so special and of course thanks to Guinness and Dazzle for looking after me!
A wonderful centre in a superb location. A warm and friendly welcome and follow up service from all the staff at Cullinghood. A great riding experience and an amazing hack - absolutely loved the gallop towards the end of the day. Other group members were supportive and we enjoyed a good laugh and relax over a hearty lunch in the house. It really felt that the rider's enjoyment was at the heart of the experience. A great day!!
Everything from start to finish was great, staff smiley and helpful, beautiful venue, good food and really nice atmosphere. We have learnt all the basics of horse riding and even my partner who is to say at least shy with the horses overcome this and enjoyed being in the saddle. We would definitely recommend this experience even for the very beginners:) Thank you Red Letter Days.
It was a pretty drive to the farm which is in a lovley setting. I arrived and after brief introductions was organised with a riding hat, paired with a suitable pony and off for my first ever formal riding lesson. I was lucky to be the only one on this particular Monday, so received one to one tuition in the spacious ring. I learnt lots in the lesson, which was thorough, professional, gave me confidence, left me feeling comfortable and relaxed with my pony, and, although I hadn't ridden for thirty years, able to recapture that feeling of childish fun! The hacking was great; we were out in the fresh air, in brilliant spring sunshine, with acres of beautiful countryside to explore. The pony I rode was happy, interactive and sweet natured; I think she was enjoying herself as much as I was. After a relaxed lunch in the farmhouse, I spent a bit of time with her, grooming and tacking. All the staff were friendly, the farm was idyllic and I would definately recommend the experience.
Expert tuiton from start to finsh from a group of very nice people.
I had a great day, its was only me so I got to have 1-2-1 tuition. Lovely horses and beautiful scenery.
I had a brilliant time and thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the horses were lovely and the grounds around which we walked were beautiful. A five star experience which I thoroughly recommend!!!
I always wanted to go horseriding but probably would never organise it , and was over the moon when my son and his girlfriend gave me this present. It was such a surprise! I decided that i wanted to go with someone and paid extra for my daughter to come with me as part of her 18th birthday present. I was a bit apprehensive but after a few minutes into the lesson i felt more confident and Mark the instructor was brilliant - he had a great personality! After a couple of hours in the saddle we went to lunch in the farmhouse where we started to talk to the others in our group. Lunch was delicious apart from the lack of salad but had enough to eat. After back on the horses and off for another hour in the country. All in all a great time especially after a good soak in the bath at home as everything was hurting!!
Had a great day, the people were warm and friendly, helpful and I even had one to one tuition which was amazing. Thanks especially to the lovely Mark and the lovely Paul who made the day very special. As a complete novice it was physically a very demanding day and I'm not sure I will be able to walk tomorrow! Thanks to all.
Being an absolute beginner, I was a bit nervous but the friendly and helpful staff at Cullinghood Equestrian Centre put me at ease straight away. Alison, who did most of the training, was constantly giving me instructions and ensuring that I was okay so that my day was enjoyable from start to finish.
A great day had at a lovely venue. The instruction was great and the staff friendly and approachable. The horses were all well mannered and it was a perfect introduction to horse riding. My only comment would be that the day could have been structured better with more of an explanation from staff about what the day would involve, at what times we would do things - lunch was quite a long affair where we felt a bit left to our own devices with no clear idea of where to go and what to do next! I would definitely recommend though, it was lots of fun!
The staff at Red Letter were very helpful as our request for our date was not one of the available ones showing on the website but it was all sorted and confirmed in a day.
As this was my first ever horseriding experience, I was a little apprehensive but found the staff to be positive and supportive. The horses were well behaved, if not too laid back. I would recommend this gift to anyone who wants to try horseriding as it is a great taster of what to expect.
