Get wet as you go white water rafting together in Wales on an inflatable seven person raft. You'll both be kitted out with all the equipment before a full safety briefing and instruction in the best practises of rafting. Be taken up to the starting point and a experienced guide will take you on a series of runs down the exhilarating bends and plunges of the mighty River Tryweryn. Catch your breath at the bottom then it starts all over again. As you both become more confident your guide will become more determined to get you wet! Get as many runs as time allows - usually four. As a guide Wales is graded three on the UK s white water rafting grading system which starts at one (relaxed) and goes up to six (too rough to offer commercially).
Selected Sundays from February to mid October, subject to water releases by the local river authority. Dates fill very quickly; book at least six weeks in advance.
Min age is 12. Max chest girth is 49''. No experience necessary but all participants must be confident swimmers and fit enough to climb back into the raft if fall out. Any medical conditions must be declared before booking and venue may test fitness.
Severe adverse weather conditions or local environmental issues can affect water releases and rafting - it is essential to call the venue two days prior to the experience to check weather conditions and the latest water release information.
The experience lasts around two hours from initial introduction to debrief. Once booked, the time quoted allows for registration, any preparation and is not necessarily the start time of the experience.
This experience is for two people. The raft holds up to seven people plus a qualified instructor.
Spectators are welcome to watch from the riverbank. A camera will come in handy. Spectators' safety remains their own responsibility at all times. There are covered facilities and a cafe, but they might not see all of the action from there.
Bring swimwear, a towel, a pair of old trainers and a change of clothes. Getting wet is compulsory, but there are hot shower facilities at the venue. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided. Glasses cannot be worn (contact lenses are OK).
It is imperative to call the venue two days in advance to check that rafting is going ahead. If water release or weather conditions mean that rafting is postponed, a rebooking will be made.

Had a voucher for my 50th to go white water rafting. Birthday in January so kept the voucher till July. Shared the day with friends and on my daughter's 15th. The whole experience from booking extra vouchers for my friends and daughter, was faultless. Red Letter Days were very helpful in this regard and the staff at the centre in Bala also exceptionally helpful. We had a raft for the six of us and two guides who were funny and relaxed. This is a great experience, thoroughly recommend for anyone who wants a great couple of hours of laughter where you get wet and come away with a huge grin.
This was great fun, our first time so no experience but brilliant. Guide made sure everyone felt safe so that could enjoy day and by end really go for it. Have 4 runs every over a mile long so plenty of time on water (around 2 hours).
Rather chilly day to be doing this but that couldn't be helped - gloves might have helped though. Had 4 runs down the river under the guidance of Sam (professional and helpful) and he made sure we got wet
The headline is a quote from my daughter's message to her dad this morning. I booked this as a 60th birthday present for my husband, and for our daughter and son who have both fled the nest. It was great to have the whole family together once more. The coldest day of the year so far yet we still got up to do rafting. An early start was needed but the trip to Bala over the mountains from Shrewsbury in bright sunshine and above the mist was simply jaw-droppingly inspirational. The temperature was -1C and we wondered what were letting ourselves in for! The staff at the centre were exceptional, both in the welcome and the kitting out in preparation for the adventure on the river. The 3 of them did four runs succesfully, primarily as a result of the expert tuition and guidance given both before the start and on the runs.Did they get wet? Yes, very! Would they do it again? Yes, definitely! The headline says it all! The professional photos on CD are incredible. Thanks to everyone. See you soon.
Had an amazing time. Wasnt as scary as i thought. Such a laugh we had
Absolutely Brilliant experiance the weather was pretty horrible raining a windy, but it made no difference at all to this experiance. Or instructor Chris was a great character he manged to get the raft stuck on a rock on one run we lost a member to the water and the rest of us were pullied to the side, not sure if this was intentional but great fun. The whole experiance was well organised and great value for money would defintely do it again.
I would totally recommend white water rafting to anybody, it was amazing! I have to admit i was a bit nervous at first about falling out the boat, but the guide was excellent and he gave the correct training and as long as you listen to him you wont fall out, after i got the first run out the way i was wondering what i had been nervous about! It was lots of fun, i took my grandad with me who is 74, so he proves that your never to old! I would definitley do it again, and the team at Bala were fantastic!!
Providing you're reasonably fit and not too frightened of water this is a hugely enjoyable experience.
Two hours of fantastic fun. An exciting experience my daughter and I will remember for a long time. We were given a comprehensive safety briefing and felt well looked after on the river. It was amazing to paddle with the group and run the rapids, bobing and weaving our way through the foaming water. Thanks
Had a fantastic time, recommend it to anyone, the only disappointment was that it had to end, all staff and guides were fab. Thank you for a great day.
it was excellent, everything about it was great. Went to the one in Wales and the instructors were great too! I would 100% do this again. It was great fun!
My husband and I were given this experience as a Christmas present by my parents, and what a gift! The instruction by Bryce was excellent and the fact that we got 4 runs in was a fantastic bonus. Bryce guided us into the best currents, twists and turns to ensure an exciting and soaking ride. It was an exhilerating experience, and a refreshing change from the monotony of work and parenthood. Definitely something we'll do again!! Would highly recommend to everyone young and old, as a gift or to treat yourself to an adventure!
Really professional, friendly guides who really enjoy what they,re doing! I wish I enjoyed my job this much! Safety is paramount but adventure runs it a very close second! Top notch equipment and an outstanding natural river run, you can,t wait to get up to the top and start again! We'll be back.
We were given a Red Letter Day as a gift, had much to choose from and wanted an experience never to forget. It was definitely an experience that made our birthday memorable, had great fun and would love to do it again!
We had a great time, the staff are all very professional and we had a very informative safety talk before we were kitted out with the wet suits, shoes, lifejackets and helmets. Then it was to the raft, but not on the water, on the grass for another how to talk/demonstration, where we were told and shown what we had to do on the raft, a lot of jumping about on dry land in the raft was required. To the water we went for our first run down the river, where we put to use the all he jumping about we had been shown earlier, it was great fun, you get tossed about and very wet, out of the river back in the truck and we did it all over again, we had five runs it total, normally you only have four but the river was very fast so we were lucky to get an extra one. The weather was great the weekend we had our white water rafting, but it wouldn't have made any difference if it had been bad. We had a great day and I would love to do it again.
Excellent Experience, well organised, a well thought out experience.
Bala is a great place to do White Water Rafting. We made a weekend of it and couldn't have asked for better weather! The professional photos were also brilliant!
This is an experience that everyone should try, great adrenaline rush and excellent day out. The staff were all very friendly and put you at ease straight away, they are always happy to answer any questions and have a joke along the way, many thanks to our guide Chris who made the experience that little bit more thrilling. Many thanks to all the staff.
I love wales and love white water rafting, this was just awesome! The location is perfect, professionally run and just brilliant fun! We did 4 runs of the river and it took about 2 hours. Each run was about 15 minutes and so we got good value for money. I hope to go again very soon but do the 'special run' next time, which is a 2 hour 'non-stop' ride from the top of the reservoir all the way down to the bala, if Red Letter Days have this as an experience, get that!!! Just brilliant! THANKS! x
