    The Cottonwood Boutique Hotel

Nice, slightly funky hotel overlooking the sea. Sadly not sitting outside weather as gardens were lovely. Staff welcoming, all the food was fresh and delicious. The fizz didn't arrive but we were so full we didn't miss it too much (to be fair we could have asked for it but nobody much about - it was mid afternoon on a Monday!) A nice treat.

    BEST WESTERN Grosvenor Hotel

The service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and made us feel special. The food was lovely but we would have prefered thinner bread slices and a choice of more brown bread than white. The lounge was nicely decorated and everything was well presented.

    Yew Lodge Hotel

This was advertised as a Champagne Tea for Two Red Letter Day treat but we did not get the Champagne ! The coffee served was Luke warm even after the second time. The sandwiches and cakes were very nice. As it was our 45th Wedding anniversary and we did not get the Champagne, we ordered two small glasses of white wine which cost a further £14.20 to the bill. What a rip off.

    Hipping Hall

My wife and I returned to Hipping Hall after enjoying a visit in winter last year. Once again we had a wonderful afternoon tea experience with delicious food in lovely surroundings served by helpful and friendly staff. Our afternoon tea consisted of freshly made finger sandwiches, salmon and cream cheese, tasty cheddar and pickle and thick ham with mustard. The cakes were equally delicious and all tasted freshly baked and included lemon drizzle cake, scones, cream and jam, poppy seed muffins topped with lemon curd (my favourite!) and chocolate and fruit fancies. We chose to eat in the orangery although we could have eaten outside in the garden or in the cosy lounge. I cannot recommend Hipping Hall highly enough and it has the bonus of being set in the lovely Cumbrian countryside near Kirkby Lonsdale.

    The Langstone

On a positive note the sandwiches were lovely. However the cakes were just ok, one tasting rather stale, certainly not fresh. The bubbly never came, I was told this was not included, which does not agree with the description of the experience, in addition the scone was inedible. I do not eat fruit so asked for a plain scone instead, was told this would need to be defrosted so it would take 15 minutes, I said that would be fine. The 15 minutes came and went........ My husband approached another member of staff regarding this, we were told chef said sorry the scone would be with us shortly. Indeed it did come quickly, although warm it was rock hard and as stated above inedible. At that point we decided to leave, the member of staff who had delivered the scone saw this, I said the scone is inedible and she just shrugged her shoulders. For me that just about summed up the whole experience of my visit to The Langsone, a couldn't care less attitude.
