A fun opportunity to experience kayaking and gain confidence on the water
After instruction, power across the water in a one-person kayak
Beginners welcome - just bring a sense of fun and a willingness to get wet!
Safety briefing, equipment and expert tuition included
Try one of the fastest growing watersports in a fun group environment. During the kayaking session, learn the essentials of paddle and boat control as well as general river safety. Once ready, head out into calm sections of the river under the guidance of qualified instructors. Take a trip through the scenic Jephson Gardens and the local nature reserve to explore, take part in challenges and put newfound kayaking skills to the test. Originally developed by indigenous people of Arctic regions, kayaks were used to hunt on lakes, rivers and coastal waters. The first ones were made of stitched animal skins such as seal stretched over a wooden frame, but today kayaks are rather more high tech!
Sessions run on selected weekend dates from June - September, plus occasional weekdays during school holidays.
Minimum age is eight and maximum is 13. Those aged 14 or over are eligible for adult kayaking (see experience code LBCKB).
Kayaking goes ahead in most conditions. Very rarely flood conditions may lead to postponement - the venue makes contact if a session is postponed.
Lasts for three hours including a refreshment break. To ensure a prompt start, please arrive a few minutes in advance of the start time. Allow some time at the centre afterwards to shower and change.
Numbers on the Day
There is a student to tutor ratio of 8:1 and everyone has their own kayak.

Please wear basic sports clothes that are fine to get wet. Bring a towel and complete change of clothes. A buoyancy aid and a waterproof top are provided. Either remove or firmly secure glasses. Contact lenses may be worn.
You WILL get wet but there are hot shower facilities so please bring shower kit. The venue is a British Canoeing Quality Mark centre, and is licensed by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.
