Instructors teach novices the basics and share knowledge
Culminates in an exhilarating racing finale, pit your wits against the opposition
Return to the marina for a winners presentation
Board a modern Sigma 26ft performance yacht - impressive and highly manoeuvrable. Meet the instructor and fellow crew members first and get kitted out, then head out to the yachts for a safety briefing. Training includes hoisting sails, helming and practising the most efficient methods of steering and guiding the yacht. Next be briefed on the rules of the race which takes place on a floating 'race track', and it's all hands on deck for that. Be part of the team and participate fully in crewing the yacht during the race, putting into action everything that has been taught. Afterwards return to the clubhouse for race results and logbook signing (for those who have been bitten by the bug and want to take their sailing further).
At least one weekend date a month from April to October. We recommend booking early for this popular experience.
Minimum age is 11 and maximum is 16. Maximum weight 16 stone. You don't need any previous sailing experience or to be a swimmer, but reasonable fitness and ability to move easily around the boat is necessary.
Sailing is a weather dependent activity and strong winds or rough seas will have an impact on the day. It's vital that you call the venue the day before your booking to confirm conditions and go ahead.
Runs approximately three hours. The actual race normally lasts around 20 minutes, depending on conditions. Please arrive in good time (ideally few minutes in advance).
