Learn to surf in a day at Cleveland North Yorkshire
A surfing expert will show you the ropes in the morning

Embark on a fun-fuelled surfing adventure in Cleveland, North Yorkshire. The school is fully accredited by the British Surfing Association and has a full team of qualified instructors to teach how to ride the waves like a true surf star. In the morning get kitted out with a wetsuit and a surf board before being taught how to keep safe while on the board, as well as how to paddle, all about trim and steering and how to stand up. Following a break for lunch, practise these newfound skills and build confidence until you're riding the waves like a professional, with a qualified instructor on hand to offer guidance, support and encouragement.
Every weekend from May until the end of October. Weekday dates can be made available on request, please check with us.
Minimum age is 12. Participants must be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres and have a good level of fitness. A fitness declaration must be signed on the day.
Call the day before to confirm weather go ahead. Conditions on the day determine the best surfing location. For safety, if instructors deem conditions are unsuitable, they will directly rebook another mutually convenient date.
Your morning lesson lasts for around two hours. Please arrive promptly to meet the instructors beforehand. There is a break for lunch, and you can then spend as long as you like in the afternoon putting your new skills to use.
Numbers on the Day
You will be split into groups with a maximum of 10 people per instructor.
Spectators are welcome to watch from the beach.
Bring a swimming costume, towel, waterproof sunblock, sunglasses and warm clothing. All surfing equipment will be supplied.
Lunch is not included but the surf school can recommend good local amenities.
