
Steam Train Footplate Ride Experience at Mid Hants Railway Alresford Hampshire
Overview
Mid Hants Railway, otherwise known as the Watercress Line, is a traditional heritage railway in Hampshire. Climb aboard the train and experience life on the footplate of a magnificent steam locomotive on its regular journey. Join crews for an exciting 20-mile return journey, hauling a passenger service through the stunning Hampshire countryside. The highly experienced engine crews are on hand to answer any questions and draw your attention to various points of interest along the way. To top it all off, the individual lucky enough to enjoy this experience will be the only passenger riding amongst the crew. This is a fantastic way to experience the thrill of the sights, sounds and smells of life on the footplate. This is a truly unique train driving experience for steam engine enthusiasts.

Available week round, February to November. Book at least one month in advance. - Participant Guidelines
Minimum age is 17. No experience is necessary but you must be fit enough to climb up to the footplate from ground level. Mobility needs must be stated when booking. - Weather
The weather should not affect this experience but if conditions are extreme please contact the station before leaving home. - Duration
This experience lasts approximately one and a half hours. - Numbers on the Day
This footplate ride is exclusively for the participant and the engine crew. - Dress Code
Stout footwear must be worn, trainers are not acceptable. Dress comfortably in old clothing that fully covers your arms and legs. - Other Info
There will be no Watercress Line trains operating to or from Alton station until the end of July 2019 due to work being carried out as part of a large highway improvement scheme. There will still be trains running to and from Alresford, Ropley and Medstead & Four Marks.
