Overview

This helicopter trial flight offers a great introduction to an entirely different way of flying. After a briefing on helicopter flying techniques and safety, climb aboard a dual-controlled training helicopter (usually a Robinson R22) accompanied by an expert pilot. The vertical take-off is astounding, and the thrills will continue as the pilot shows how the chopper can move forward, backward, sideways or simply hover motionless in the air. At the pilot's discretion, get the chance to take the controls on the flight, and feel the adrenaline rush of manoeuvring these amazing craft.

In a Nutshell
  • Expert instruction from your qualified pilot
  • Backwards, forwards, sideways, hovering - helicopters are incredibly versatile
  • Take the controls and pilot the helicopter yourself
  • If you get the chopper bug, your flying time can count towards a Private Pilot's Licence
Key Info
  • Availability Description
Many venues operate seven days a week. Weekends are often very busy and we recommend that booking several weeks in advance.
  • Participant Guidelines
Minimum age varies from 12 to 16, according to venue. The Robinson R22 has a maximum weight of 17 stone but weight restrictions vary by venue from 15 to 17 stone. Some venues will ask you for name and address/photo id on the day for security reasons.
  • Weather
Helicopter flying is a weather dependent activity, mainly due to wind speeds and cloud base above the ground, and it's essential to call the venue for a weather check before setting out.
  • Duration
The time spent in the helicopter is around 25-30 minutes from engines-on to engines-off. This includes warm-up, take-off and landing.
  • Numbers on the Day
Briefings may be shared. Flights are held one a one-to-one basis with the instructor.
  • Dress Code
Please bear in mind that the cockpit can get quite warm and dress accordingly. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.
  • Other Info
All our vouchers are fully flexible and can be redeemed against our huge range of experiences. Flying time can count towards a Private Pilot's Licence. To qualify for a PPL you need a minimum of 45 hours dual-control flying, of which at least 10 hours must be solo flying.
