Overview

Flying a microlight is an exhilarating experience - and one which needs strong nerves and a real head for heights! Begin with a short briefing from a qualified instructor, before hopping into a microlight. There are two types of microlight (both dual-controlled) - 'flex wing' - based on the frame of a hang glider; or 'fixed wing' - similar to a conventional light aircraft. Once airborne, experience the incredible speed and manoeuvrability of these little craft, with the instructor on hand to offer guidance and encouragement to participants to take over the controls and assume the role of honorary pilot. This flight time can also count towards a microlight Private Pilot's Licence.

In a Nutshell
  • An exhilarating flight in a microlight - speed, manoeuvrability and breathtaking views
  • Expert instruction from a qualified pilot
  • Take the controls of the microlight (at the pilot's discretion)
  • Can contribute towards flying time for a Private Pilot's Licence for microlights
Key Info
  • Availability Description
Operational dates vary but generally venues run every weekend and some weekdays during the summer months and up to three dates a month (weekends and weekdays) throughout the rest of the year, with the exception of Hampshire which operatates seven days a week (excluding 24, 25 and 26 Dec).
  • Participant Guidelines
Maximum weight is 14 to 17 stone and minimum age is 14 to 16, depending on venue. Under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who'll be required to sign a disclaimer.
  • Weather
Microlighting is a weather dependent activity and it is crucial that you call the venue for a weather check before setting out. If your flight is cancelled because of the weather, it will be re-booked for an alternative date or time.
  • Duration
The flight lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Numbers on the Day
Briefing might be shared, but your flight is held on a one-to-one basis with a qualified pilot.
  • Dress Code
Most microlights have open cockpits, so wrap up warm. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.
  • Other Info
All our vouchers are fully flexible and can be redeemed against our huge range of experiences. Flying time can count towards a microlight private pilot's licence, for which you need 15 hours of dual control and 10 hours solo flying to qualify. Please be aware that this is quite a high adrenaline experience, not for the faint-hearted.
