  • About

Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It's a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use. Your experience includes around an hour in the air over three flights, plus expert instruction. You'll start with a briefing session, before climbing aboard a dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. The glider is then towed into the air by a light aircraft and once you're at a height of around 2,000 ft the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you're free to soar lazily in the thermal currents. You'll have breathtaking views of the countryside below you and the sky around you. And - at the pilot's discretion - take control of the glider yourself. Unforgettable.

    • You're towed into the air by a light aircraft then released at 2,000ft
    • Use the thermal currents to circle upwards
    • Expert instruction from your qualified pilot
    • Take the controls of the glider during around an hour of gliding
  • Key Info

    Availability

Weekend dates year round. They fill quickly, so we recommend allowing several weeks advance booking notice, even earlier during summer.

    Participant Guidelines

Minimum age 16. Maximum height is 6'4''. Maximum weight is 16 stone. You can't fly if you suffer from epilepsy, fainting or certain other physical or mental disabilities - check when booking.

    Weather

Gliding is weather dependent. It is crucial that you call the venue between 9am and 9.30am for a weather check before setting out. If your flights are cancelled because of the weather, they'll be re-booked for an alternative date.

    Duration

The duration of your experience can vary. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure your flights start promptly.

    Numbers On Day

Your briefings might be shared, your flights will be held on a one-to-one basis with the pilot.

    Spectators

Spectators are welcome, but must follow safety directions whilst on site. A camera or a pair of binoculars will come in handy. Why not bring a packed lunch, sit and watch for a while?

    Dress Code

Wear flat-soled shoes and bring a jumper with you in case it gets cold at higher altitudes. Bring gloves in winter and sunblock and a hat in summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.

    Other Info

The venue is run as a non-profit making club and you may be expected to help others launch and retrieve their gliders while you wait your turn at flying.

I organised this day for my son, everyone at Spalding & Peterborough gliding club were friendly and helpful. My son had 3 flights wich were done over 2-3 hours, so we didn't have to wait very long inbetween flights. He really enjoyed the day as did his Mum and Dad. Thank you for a great day out.........

All the personnel were very welcoming, especially instructor John, full of enthusiasm and information and extremely professional - loved the amount of 'stick time' I got controlling the glider.

From the time you arrive, even with a level of uncertainty, you are immediately put at ease by the friendliness and enthusiasm of the club members and instructors, the three 20min flights were breathtaking and having control on the last flight due to brilliant instruction made an amazing day.

Floating 4000 feet in the air, riding the bubbles of air as the thermals rise. Absolutely the most beautiful hour, at one with the air and clouds.
