What could be more quintessentially British than a delicious afternoon tea served in charming surroundings? Give in to tea and cake cravings at one of a range of hand-picked venues, including charming hotel restaurants and lounges. What's included will vary according to the location chosen - for example be served a traditional English cream tea, a tea with finger sandwiches and homemade cakes, fancy pastries and champagne, or cakes and cocktails, and some venues offer the experience for more than two people. Whichever it is, find the perfect spot to relax on any occasion from Mother's Day to 40th birthday celebrations, and indulge and while away an afternoon. Tuck in!
Bookings are offered seven days a week at most venues (bear in mind that hotel venues can be much busier during summer months).
Everyone is welcome, but at least one guest must be an adult (18 or over).
Tea is served in the afternoon, usually between 11am and 6pm.
The majority of venues offer this experience for two people, although there are options included within our range for three and for four.
Most hotels request smart casual dress.
We had our red letter afternoon tea at the Best Western Grosvener Hotel in Stratford on Avon. The staff were pleasant and helpful. However the actual tea was a little disappointing. Some of the small helping of sandwiches had been made some time ago as the bread was hard. We could have done with additional hot water for our tea as it became very strong when left. The cakes and chocolate fondue were lovely. When we left we asked about the complimentary Whittards tea box as advertised. The staff didn't know what I was talking about so I raised this with the duty manager who was less than helpful. Suffice to say we didn't get our gift. Overall 6 out of 10.
Beautiful, comfortable venue. Will probably return again. Receptionist very helpful when I made the confirmation booking.
6 quarters of dull sandwiches on dry bread between 2. No other savouries. Scones and clotted cream were acceptable. Other cakes were bought in and there were no Danish pastries. We were not offered the ‘champagne’ and only remembered to ask for it when we had finished eating. Very disappointing and not good value for money.
We went a little bit earlier and they were so nice and kind they served us immediately with tea and coffee. All the sandwiches, cakes and pastries seemed fresh and delicious, we had to ask for a small box take away a few of them because we were so full!
Very nice traditional afternoon tea. We were made very welcome by the manager. We were taken to a small, but very pleasant room which had a log fire. The whole ambiance made our visit very good. The manager gave us a potted history of the home including a tour of the vaults. Converted dungeons (from Cromwell's time) are now dining/lounge/bar area. Ask the manager to show you.
It would be tight for parking if hotel/restaurant is busy.
My husband and I were taken to our table by a very polite smart waitress.Once seated we were shown a selection of teas which we were able to smell and choose. We were then given a lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.A wonderful treat!
THE MOAT HOUSE WAS FANTASTIC,THE AFTERNOON TEA WAS PURE QUALITY AND THE SERVICE EXCELLENT.WE BOTH REALLY ENJOYED THE EXPERIENCE AND WILL LOOK FORWARD TO DOING IT ALL AGAIN,SOON!!!!!
Lovely surroundings. Excellent service.
Beautiful tea. Second time I have been for
Afternoon tea there.
What a wonderful experience. The hotel was stunning in beautiful grounds. Sandwiches, tea, cakes and scones all very delicious. Will go back again to experience dinner and stay overnight.
After a stroll through the charming village a stop at shelleys was a delight. Lovely friendly service and a delicious cream tea. A really enjoyable experience and thoroughly recommended.
I took my mum for afternoon tea at Hey Little Cupcake and we both have a wonderful time! The food was lovely and the staff were excellent!
I recently took my daughter here as part of a special day out in London for her birthday. We arrived half an hour early and as it was raining we asked if we would be able to come in early which they had no problem with. We were show a selection of different teas presented in a large wooden box, made our choice which was then brought to the table with the cake stand filled with a lovely range of different finger sandwiches, cakes and a really lovely scone with jam and clotted cream. We have a lovely time in pleasant surroundings and was not rushed or made to feel rushed at all.
A very friendly greeting followed by a superb tea in a very relaxed atmosphere with very attentive but not intrusive staff
We would recommend it to everyone.
The booking was easy but when we got there the booking had not been passed on to the Restaurant. However after several minutes the staff sorted it out and were very attentive and provided outstanding service with excellent scones, very full sandwiches and very nice cakes and even a top up of the Prosecco.
it was adequate but not really as described - no Danish pastry, the prosecco we paid for.
Service was good enough and the food average - not enough to complain directly - but when we reviewed what was advertised, it fell short.
After having had a Red Letter Day Tea for Two experience in Reading, which was amazing. The one in Eastbourne was very disappointing - poor choice of sandwich fillings Tuna/Mayo and Ham/Tomato, sandwiches were large and chunky, scones were average and we felt the choice of cakes was poor - brownies, lemon tart & home made eclairs (pastry was very hard). We were served in the bar area, which was uninspiring to say the least.
Would not use this hotel again.
We arrived at the hotel to be ignored by reception staff so we found a seat in a room where others were having tea after a 20minute wait while staff passed us..no eye contact no offer of anything we 'excuse me' twice before a member of staff came over to us. From then on she was very pleasant to us apologised for us not being able to use correct room but there was a wedding party using it also said we were booked in for 3pm when I had booked for 2.30 then changed it to a confirmed 2pm.
You could choose your sandwiches which were delicious
As were the scone
Ignored on arrival
Sandwiches crusts should be All off not partial
Scones size of ten pence piece and made up already with cream &jam
Cakes were very poor bit fruit cake, fairy cake, macaroon like a rock, square of chocolate something??,and a soft Viennese whirl jammed together.
I found a first class service from ALLstaff, beginning with the booking and ending with an invitation to visit the Lanntry Museum. Food quality and service was excellent.
Beautiful peaceful venue, warm welcome, lovely service off Madie and delicious afternoon tea. Couldn't have had a better experience on an awful foggy day...can't wait to return on a sunny day to appreciate the views and the scones again!
Staff were really good, friendly & efficient. A nice selection of sandwiches & cakes as well as scones with a generous serving of jam & clotted cream. A glass of very nice tasting champagne as well to top it all off! Thoroughly recommend the "champagne afternoon tea for 2" :)
