Steam Train Experience

This was a lovely day out, especially as the scones were warm and the cream and jam were perfect. The tea was so nice, I took a picture of the wrapper and bought some later. The staff were friendly and were more than interested in what they do.

Nostalgic memories of the return to the steam train era. A lovely day out and plenty to enjoy

I arrived at the pre arranged time and found Bob Volley steaming up the line towards me. We made our introductions and then Bob introduced me to Smokey Joe, a beautiful little green steam engine. He showed me to a seat and then the controls of the engine. He told me all about the line and then took us down the half mile track explaining how to drive as we went. Half way he let me take over until the next steep section. Almost before I knew it, we were arriving at the end of the line. Bob then told me I would driving back to the top. Guiding me all the way he handed control over to me and I opened the regulator and off we went. Bobs guidance was invaluable and we made the top without trouble. Bob the said we were going to repeat the trip and this time I drove more. When we returned to the top we posed for some photos and after chatting for a bit we said our goodbyes. Altogether a most enjoyable experience and an ambition fulfilled. Many thanks to Bob and all at the Sherwood Forest railway.

Took our grandson aged 4we all loved it the train was spotlessly clean very friendly the guard even invited our grandson into the cab which he loved would definitely recommend excellent value

We met as part of a group of seven and, after coffee, we were given a tour of the locomotive shed, the carriage works and a signal box. After a provided lunch in the restaurant we had a return ride of the full length on the line, followed by a tour of the museum. Our guide was very knowledgeable without being overpowering and the whole day moved along very smoothly.

The staff and experience was just amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and a special shout out to Fatima and Elliot who looked after us. Everything went perfectly from the moment I contacted British Pullman to the time we left the train it was perfect. I am going to do again!

Would highly recommend a visit to the East Somerset Railway. More than just a great trip on a real steam train, it's a terrific little museum preserving history. And a fab cafe and shop!
