We've had bad experiences with Red Letter days before but thought we couldn't go wrong booking with The Crowne Plaza, so booked that. The voucher cost £150 and I paid extra for breakfast on top. (Thursday to Friday).
Plus points.
Good spa, decent size of pool, good steam room and clean changing rooms. Nice staff member on duty too.
Super hot breakfast buffet with a good array of items and staff cleaned busy tables quickly. Well done to the breakfast crew, they were a credit.
Then to our room, our King room was regular size with mocha walls and a decent view over the river.
Minus points.
Our experience was spoiled by a broken A/C which was not good in a heatwave, scalding water in the shower that was to the point of being dangerous and our room was by constant banging and drilling as they were renovating the lifts on the 12th floor and we were not pre-warned. (I would have added a video but it does not let you.) I notified reception who said the noise would stop at 5pm. It started next day back of 8am.
We let reception know on leaving room 1222 that they needed the shower/water and A/C examined and fixed.
You came in from the heat and there was no fan or A/C at reception either. Not good for staff or customers.
Staff jackets needed fitted at the shoulder too as they were too big and looked unprofessional.
The room had a small fridge that barely worked and two tiny milk sachets that barely covered the base of the mug for tea. I went down to reception for more and was offered two sachets. (These are like McDonalds ones that splash when you open.) I asked for more and got six, which just about did two cups of tea for two. This needs re-thought. You pay for quality you expect at least one decent cup of tea without having to ask for it.
We've stayed at other Crowne Plazas and this one is quite good, hence 3 stars but needs to up it's game. What is an average hotel could be way better.
They could also use a swimsuit dryer in the ladies changing area too.
