About the experience

This country hotel and restaurant sits on the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park, affording guests an unmatchable scenic view. Tuck into a selection of thinly cut finger sandwiches with fillings that include smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise with mustard cress. The crowning glory of this yummy spread comes in the form of freshly baked scones and traditional Welsh cakes. These are accompanied by an array of homemade pastries, bara brith (traditional Welsh fruit loaf), as well as plenty of strawberry jam and fresh cream. No afternoon tea would be complete without a piping hot beverage and you'll be able to choose from freshly brewed tea or coffee.

Best Christmas Gift
I was given a gift card for afternoon tea at Ty Newydd in Brecon. I called to reserve a d they took note of my reference number. I told them about my white flour intolerance which they noted saying it wouldn't be a problem. They called me the day before offering me an alternative as they wouldn't be able to avoid white flour and so I chose the Ploughman's lunch
My friend had the afternoon tea which was amazing as was my Ploughman's lunch , they then came around with top ups and a plate of luscious fruit for me ?? Thnen just as we were getting really stuck in thet brought over 2 glasses of prosecco. Oh my gosh we came on the sunniest of days too and the place and grounds were lovely ?? I maybe back to sample their Sunday lunch soon xx thanks to my wonderful neighbours for gifting it to me xx

Welsh Afternoon Tea for Two at Ty Newydd Country Hotel
From the very pleasant to utterly bizarre.
The staff were really nice, particularly the young man serving us, who couldn't have been more attentive, 9/10.
the actual tea was nice and plentiful 10/10, uncomfortable crockery (we're supposed to be out for afternoon tea, not attending a conference!), but when it came to the food...2/10
Who on earth serves Onion Rings and Chicken Goujons in an afternoon tea? Standard-enough sandwiches (usual but not particularly generous fillings).
Everything else was bought it catering-unpleasantness. Greggs-type sausage roll, corned-beef pastry (!), small scone, nice-ish lemon tart, unbelievably cheap, nasty, ultra-processed, attempt at Swiss roll. That was truly inedible.
The surroundings 4/10. The tea (bar) area is pretty tired and needs a big upgrade (sorry, I'm sure that you'll be under the cosh wrt to cash)
But despite your lovely staff, we won't be coming back or recommending you until you make some kind of investment - just please fix the food; that would do it for us!

A lovely afternoon
It was a lovely October day ,and we traveled through beautiful scenery to arrive ay Ty Newydd .We were welcomed warmly at reception and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea . There was a very nice selection , sandwiches ,warm pasties ,sausage roll ,onion rings ,crisps and other savories .Small pieces , just enough of savories to leave room for the selection of sweet things and of course cream and jam scones ..Lovely .!

Terrible experience
This was a gift I had for a birthday I was so disappointed, quality was atrocious ,cheese spread and cucumber sandwiches ,an onion ring and shop bought cakes put in to warm so Welsh cake was like a biscuit ,it snapped . When complained they offered another Welsh cake ,we was only there for 40 mins ,really not worth the money paid .
