Macdonald Hotel Spa Day for Two with 25 Minute Treatment - Special Offer

The Hotel is lovely, grounds are spacious and beautiful. Staff very friendly, explained everything we needed to know about Spa, pool etc. The beautician Natalie who did my massage was very professional and friendly. We had lunch outside inthe restaurant grounds as the weather was glorious, staff here were great, very attentive, nothing was a problem for them, food was delisious too, wod definitely go back.

My daughter and I had this experience brought for us at Christmas. We were looking forward to this especially my daughter had never done anything like this before. We arrived and had our robes and slippers given to us.We had our treatments a deep tissue massage booked for 12.30. We went through to the pool out as we had 2 hrs to chill before our treatment. The pool was very busier with a mix of experience day people and members there. As I was getting into the pool a lady was taking a hairball of hair out of the pool, which is not the best start. Every seat etc was taken. So had to sit on the side. The pool is small tired and dirty lots of missing tiles on the floor. We went up to the treatment rooms filled the forms in etc . My daughter was taken through first I waited a further 15 mins, to have mine. I overheard a conversation that a therapist had gone home and the therapist who was about to do my treatment was going on lunch but was told she couldn’t believe was booked in. I felt bad as I had heard this she told me to go through to the room , but she was not happy and the most friendliest lady. I did say I didn’t need to have this done and go and gave lunch but she said no she will do it. I felt awkward now and thought uncomfortable. She never once asked me on the pressure and was I ok. It was not a good relaxing treatment. My daughter had a lovely treatment and was happy. We both left shortly after this as I felt disappointed. I don’t like to complain but the whole set up is not right. I wish I had read previous reviews as there are some poor ones on there and I would’ve booked else where.

The voucher itself was a great gift and worth the money. However the spa was aged, and communal for the hotel so was very busy.

Firstly we were not contacted with options for treatments or even given a choice. The time and treatment was allocated to us. When questioned heading into the treatment they said could have deep tissue massage, facial or foot spa. 3 basic options with no description. I did have the massage and the lady was lovely and massage was nice. Pool very run down with huge dirty windows and is used for public classes - not relaxing. Holes and leaks in ceiling of thermal spa and no ice in the ice scrub bowl at any point throughout the day. Half the available shampoo/conditioner/shower gels/hand washes were either broken or missing or empty in the changing rooms. Staff on reception desk very abrupt and unhelpful. Some people entering had a tour of the facilities - we did not get offered this so found out everything ourselves. Young lady serving in the vital cafe was really nice and as a whole we did have a nice day but that was due to the fact that you can have a good day anywhere with the right person, as opposed to the location. Is well overdue a refurb and service of staff could definitely be better (except for the girl in the caf, she was great)
