Very expensive hotel surcharge (£120 in addition to the £150 voucher price). Room aircon unusable due to the noise. No public lifts in the hotel so all guests needed to use the single, small, staff lift or take the staff stairs. Breakfast inedible.

Wonderful day with tremendously knowledge guide. We learnt absolutely loads about UK plants and fungi. 100% recommend.

We were really looking forward to our spa experience at Linden Hall, which was a gift for our 10th wedding anniversary\. We were so excited for a relaxing break that we decided to book an overnight stay at the hotel as well\. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations\. The spa itself was quite basic, and my husband didn’t receive the full treatment time that had been allocated\. There were also some cleanliness and maintenance issues, including rusty, sludgy water around the base of the ladies’ toilet in the changing room, which soaked into the slippers I was wearing\. As this was an experience day, it seemed the hotel had booked in a very large number of guests\. This meant the facilities were extremely busy, with the jacuzzi constantly packed and no chairs or loungers available around the pool\. Rather than feeling relaxing, it felt overcrowded and a little like everyone had been packed in like sardines\. Lunch was nice, but again, there were so many people booked in that everything felt quite rushed\. We ultimately decided not to return to the spa afterwards because there was simply no opportunity to relax and unwind\. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, particularly as this was a special 10th wedding anniversary gift and something we had been really looking forward to\. The main issue was that the hotel appeared to prioritise fitting in as many experience\-day guests as possible, rather than creating the relaxing experience we had paid for\. Unfortunately, we left feeling that we hadn’t received the full treatment time or the relaxing spa break we had expected\. The Red Letter Days is a good idea, however it was the venue that let it down.
