Steam Train Driving Taster Experience at Sherwood Forest Railway for One

A fantastic hour with Bob learning to Drive a Steam Train at the Sherwood Forest Railway. The weather held out for me and had a brilliant time. Bob was full of interesting information about the Railway and the Steam Engine. I would highly recommend this experience.

I am not a railway buff but this turned out to be a really fun day. The location is picturesque and is beautifully maintained. After a short period of instruction off we went with me allowed to control speed on all but downhill sections. I stoked the boiler and tooted the steam whistle and loved it. Another satisfied customer.

After looking forward to the steam train driving experience with the Sherwood Forest Railway for so long, it didn’t disappoint. Friendly, cheerful helpful and professional sums up the staff, my wife and I were welcomed and enjoyed a complementary coffee while we waited for the driver to greet us and take me through the training (not too difficult) before setting off (under his watchful eye) to take the train and it’s passengers to the far station at the end of the line, approx 1/2 mile. We unhitched, came back around to the front of the carriages and then set of off, back up the track. When we arrived at the top station I thought that that would be it, but no, we did it all over again, our friendly driver/trainer even taking photos of Sue and I together, me at the controls and she standing besides the engine. Whilst the whole set-up is more geared towards children, mums and dads, grans and granddad’s can all have a great time here. A great day and a wonderful experience that I shall always remember. Sherwood Forest Railway, we’ll be back to see you all again.

We all had a lovely day

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. Steve, the teacher was excellent. I went along. Though it was clear the experience was only for one. We both received a welcome drink & I was invited to sit on the train while my husband drove it. The staff were all friendly and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon. I would definitely recommend this.

Bob was an excellent teacher explaining how things work and how to read the railway whilst driving the engine. It was a brilliant experience which I would love to repeat!

Really enjoyed myself….

I attended this experience today and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Bob and all the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make it totally enjoyable. I was able to take the reins twice and the wife was able to come along as well. I would thoroughly recommend this railway and hope they are able to fund their extension.
