Afternoon Tea for Two at Haycock Manor Hotel

Arrived 10 minutes early greeted warmly and shown to our table. The refurbishment and upgrade of the hotel is amazing and very impressive. Staff friendly and welcoming but whilst the waitress was trying her best she needs training on the final details. We didn’t think she had been coached. Temporary menus as the selection changed. Good choice of teas. 25 minutes later the drinks arrived and 15/20 minutes later the savouries. Just on a big plate. Sandwiches were large chunky fingers with meagre fillings. The sausage roll was huge, greasy and when I bit into mine (cut in half) a loud crunch. I suspected a piece of bone but was informed by the chef that the sausage meet sometimes went crispy on baking. Wasn’t convinced. Waitress spoke to her manager who offered, but we declined, 2 glasses of Prosecco. The sweet items came and were well presented and looked delicious. We had to go and find the waitress to provide clean plates and cutlery. We would expect someone in the room at all times. The waitress had left and we found a new member of staff at a table and asked for our bill. I think the staff need better training and the savories less industrial and better presentation. The venue is lovely and only recently fully opened ( we felt) so hopefully we will go again once they have honed their delivery. I had to call in the morning as the 3 times promised booking acknowledgement never arrived. Still it was pleasant but expected better
