Overnight Spa Break with Two Treatments and Prosecco at a Macdonald Hotel for Two – Weekend

My partner and I decided to do a last minute overnight relaxing getaway and settled on this one. From booking the stay&spa, to check-in and prosecco in an ice bucket waiting in the room through to check-out the staff were impeccable, going above and beyond wherever they could. Standard double room was cozy, clean and had everything you could ask for in an overnight stay with spa robe and slippers in the wardrobe. It was a hot weekend and only had 1 fan (air con only available in deluxe rooms), but the reception staff very kindly brought up another fan whilst we were out, no fuss at all. You get x2 25-minute treatments each which is a great deal! You may have to go in at separate times (staff availability) and have access to the 'relaxation' room whilst you wait which is great and time really slips by you. Both had a deep tissue back massage the first day (my massage therapist was called Rita and was so lovely and kind). The morning before checkout (after breakfast - which was really good and full of choice on the help yourself), my partner was able to swap his facial (as he decided he didn't want this), for another deep tissue back with Geraldine (who'm I booked the spa bits with before arrival and was super helpful as well as my partner saying she did a wonderful job with his back). I still had my Elemis Facial(head massage also included) and the therapist (Reena I think her name...) was so nice and polite and left my skin glowing. 10/10 would recommend to everyone! Additional benefit is that it is literally a 5minutes (or less) walk into Stratford-Upon-Avon town which we enjoyed before we headed home. Will definitely go here again.

A very enjoyable stay. My husband rejected the treatments offered so I think that he missed out on a treat! Reception staff in the spa were very kind. There should have been a bottle of prosecco in the room but because of the hot weather it wasn't there and this could have been explained at check in. They happily provided it when I asked about it, with ice bucket and glasses. The bedroom had 2 comfortable chairs and the bed was very spacious and comfortable too. We enjoyed the breakfast. Everything was good quality. We thought that the parking was limited until we were advised that there was plenty near the conference centre. Better signage in the carpark would have helped.

The setting and the entrance is lovely but it started to go downhill as soon as we went to the reception desk. There was no warm smile or pleasantries, just a very serious man giving us a key to our room with instructions on how to find it. At first glance the room seemed nice but the longer we spent there, the more faults we found that could easily be fixed. Bath panel rotting, wobbly taps, parts missing from the shower, dead batteries in the TV remote, only 2 teabags. We went down to the bar and asked if we could go outside. It was obvious that we didn't know how to access the terrace but at no point did the bar staff offer any help. We paid over £9 for orange juice and lemon and a diet coke. The spa was much better. The staff were friendly and everything was clean and organised. The pool was nice but we didn't get a spa experience and there were too many kids splashing around. The evening meal was the worst part. There was a significant language barrier with the staff, the menu was very limited. I ordered an £18 pizza and when it arrived I was shocked that it was a no frills frozen pizza that definitely wasn't worth the money. The side of macaroni cheese was awful. Dried up pasta with hardly any sauce. The burger was very average and again, definitely not worth the money. We complained and they removed the Mac cheese from the bill but made us pay for the pizza because I'd eaten some of it. We couldn't express our disappointment at the time because of the language barrier. Breakfast was better but by that time, we felt a bit ripped off that we'd paid over £70 for a rubbish meal the night before.
