Spa Day with Afternoon Tea at a Mercure Hotel for Two

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience overall, particularly as it was purchased as a gift. On arrival, we were shown downstairs to the spa area, which is spread over three floors. The staircase area creates a real disconnection between the different spaces, and sadly the spa doesn’t match the standard or appearance of the rest of the hotel. It felt tired, grubby and run down, with a strong smell of drains. The seating was uncomfortable and, with water aerobics taking place, it certainly didn’t feel like the relaxing spa experience we had expected. We did upgrade and pay for a massage treatment, which thankfully was very nice and the highlight of the visit. Sadly, the afternoon tea was extremely poor. The sandwiches were crusty, overloaded with pickle and had very little filling, particularly the cheese. The vegetarian selection was also very limited — two egg and two cheese sandwiches, all with pickle. The scones were hard and crusty, and the cakes appeared to be frozen desserts rather than freshly prepared afternoon tea treats. One positive was the bar staff. The young lads working there were very pleasant, friendly and helpful, which was appreciated. Overall, for the price, we were very disappointed. As this was bought as a gift, I would be reluctant to purchase the same experience for someone else. There were some positives, particularly the massage and the lovely bar staff, but unfortunately the overall experience did not feel good value for money.

Amazing customer service and experience, great swimming pool that is not heavy on chlorine. I felt fresh and clean. Ice room could do with more ice and as my first time at their spa it was confusing finding my way around, so could do with some signs pointing to the right direction but there were so many lovely people willing to help. Honestly amazing value for money, I can't believe it. I felt like a princess and so well looked after. The afternoon tea you got so much food per person and it was freshly made, THANK YOU.
