Safety briefing, equipment and expert tuition included
Beginners welcome - just bring a sense of fun and a willingness to get wet!
Fancy doing something a bit more adventurous on a day off? Kayaking is fun, active and a great chance to learn a new skill. Begin with a safety briefing and an outline of basic handling techniques from an expert instructor. Then go out onto the water in a one-person kayak for a relaxing river trip through the Victorian Jephson Gardens and into the nature reserve. There may even be a chance to play some games specifically designed to aid competence in the water - it's a fun way to end a satisfying experience. Kayaking is one of the fastest growing watersports in the country and can't be beaten for the sheer pleasure of powering silently across the water.
Sessions run on selected weekend dates around twice a month between March - October.
Min age 14. Participants must be reasonably fit and confident in the water. Ability to swim is not necessary as buoyancy aids are worn at all times. A complete a medical declaration must be completed (must be signed by a parent/guardian if under 18).
Kayaking goes ahead in most conditions. Very rarely flood conditions may lead to postponement - the venue makes contact if a session is postponed.
Lasts for three hours including a refreshment break. To ensure a prompt start, please arrive a few minutes in advance of the start time. Allow some time at the centre afterwards to shower and change.
