Sunday Afternoon Tea

We rang only the day before to check if Afternoon Tea was available on a Sunday knowing they served Sunday lunch. A check of the bookings, the call handler offered the option for anytime after 3.30. We agreed to 4pm. On the Sunday we made out way to what is a destination venue, it is nearly the last property in the rural village before the gate onto the North Yorks moors. The grange is a substantial stone dwelling, quaint and personal. Met in reception, despite being 15 minutes early we were welcomed and invited to sit in the sitting room or roam the gardens and someone would find us when they were ready. A quick tour of the rose garden, we were met on the small terraced lawn and offered the choice to sit onside or iunder a parasol at a table on the lawn. We chose to sit out and enjoy some sunshine. Once seated were were offered tea or coffee and asked if we had any allergies. The large pot of tea with a pot of hot water arrived with the pots of jam and cream soon followed by the tray of sandwiches. The sandwiches were in brown bread -alternatives were not offered- also on the platter were sausage roll, jam centered buns, peaches in elderflower jelly. The bread was soft the sandwiches fresh - the filling were good but no options were offered. The Elderflower jelly was a surprise and very refreshing!!! The teapot was sufficient for 6 decent sized cups of tea with a fresh pot and more hot water offered. Part way through the sandwiches a plate with home made warm scones arrived. They were very light and deliciously crumbly and went down well with the thick cream and strawberry jam. Staff came to enquire everything was ok and were chatty and friendly throughout. We were not pressed to leave even after we had eaten and we took the chance to admire the furniture and clocks. Would go again!!!
