Two Course Dinner in the Brasserie at Sopwell House for Two

Venue amazing, food absolutle delish

The surroundings were very plush and there were lots of waiting staff. The menu (for the gift) was somewhat limited, however the food we chose was excellent, cooked as we had asked and nicely presented.

Booking the meal at Sopwell House was not easy. I phoned to make a booking, selected the option for the restaurant, and waited for over 5 minutes listening to all the 'wonderful' things I could do at Sopwell House. Then an automated message stating that I had requested a call-back (I hadn't) and was cut off. 5 minutes later, they called, the phone rang 3 times, then hung up before I could get to the phone. I resorted to booking on-line! I received an email the following day, requesting I confirm the reservation, which I did. The day before my booking, I received 5 missed calls on my mobile, no message. As we were away, I could not respond to this. I called the hotel about 2 hours before our reservation, concerned that we did not have a booking. Fortunately we did. The meal itself was not the best meal ever. As we had a voucher, we were limited to the set menu, which was limited. The choices for the starter were ok, the main course not. A choice of cod, steak, or butter beans (!) as the vegetarian option. We do not like butter beans, don't often eat red meat, especially steak when out, so had to have the cod. Which to be fair was nice. As we were still hungry we had dessert (which we paid for) and was nice. The service was good. The room was a bit chilly. Sopwell House is therefore not somewhere we chose to revisit, nor recommend.
