To be honest, I wish my gift-giver had saved the money because there was no value in the experience at all for us.
We chose a Slug and Lettuce for this experience as there were only three eligible restaurants in our area.
Got to S&L:
- as we walked in at 5pm on a Sunday there was a group of very drunk people stumbling about in front of the entrance “singing” and blocking people from actually getting into the venue
- we were led to a small table at the far end of the floor, on a sticky table that had not been cleared down from the previous user despite having the reservation card on the table
- of the four starters, both the calamarie and the chicken skewers were unavailable leaving two potato options; ham croquettes and “patatas braves” … partner got the croquettes and I swear I’ve seen better structural integrity in baby food they were practically slop - and the bravas were literally hash brown bites with some hot sauce. No alternatives for the missing half the menu offered.
- main meal choices consisted of a chicken Caesar salad (using spinach and iceberg instead of romain), hunters chicken, a breaded chicken burger, a beef burger or a veggie burger.
- we both went with hunters chicken - it’s was overcooked, tough and flavourless. Comes to something when the best part of the meal is the peas.
- both bathrooms at the venue were horrendous; of the 5 stalls in the ladies, 3 were functional and only 1 had toilet paper available. In the men’s, one of the stalls was covered in excrement. Both issues raised with staff and duly ignored for the duration of our visit
- when we went to pay, despite having given them our voucher, they tried to charge us full price for the meal
I’m sure other venues will be more positive than this, but, it’s something to keep in mind when purchasing. I left feeling disappointed that this was gifted to us because it was truly atrocious value for money. I think a safer option would be a gift voucher for a trusted venue.
