You might not know this but bathing in a little Champagne has some wonderful effects on the skin (as well as your mood). We’ve teamed up with Co-Founder of award-winning Harley Street Skin Clinic, Lesley Reynolds and her colleague Dr Mike Tee, to provide us with some invaluable insight into the many benefits of bathing in Champagne. With over 25 years of experience in the beauty and aesthetics industry, they know their stuff.
"There is some evidence to show that the antioxidants and tartaric acid in Champagne can detoxify the skin and even out skin tone: tartaric acid can also improve discoloured skin while Champagne's antibacterial properties can reduce breakouts for those with oily skin."
"As well as the antioxidants in Champagne, cellular activators such as organic acids, minerals and vitamins are said to help slow down the ageing process and repair the skin."
"A great benefit of Champagne is the antioxidants found in the grape seed extract it contains. These antioxidants are many times more powerful than vitamin C and vitamin E. Grape seed extract safeguards the skin’s vital collagen and elastin from environmental free radicals."
It’s important to remember that these benefits can be negated with the consumption of too much alcohol.
To achieve maximum benefits, it is recommended that you do not exceed 1-1.5 units on average, per day.
"Women have enjoyed putting gold on their skin for centuries because gold reflects the light making the skin look more beautiful and luminous, so it's not really surprising that gold is a widely used ingredient in luxury skincare (especially anti-ageing) products like cleansers, moisturisers, eye serums and masks."
"There is evidence to suggest that gold may have anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant effects; indeed gold compounds have been used for many years to treat ageing. The metal can help reduce inflammation which causes hyperpigmentation and acne, reduce skin redness and protect against free radicals that lead to wrinkles and sun damage.
"Many women firmly believe that when applied topically, gold-infused products can help them to achieve a more radiant and youthful skin.”
